How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024331 / WPW10269756 Basket

I ordered the basket assembly, which I received it in less than 24 hours. So I was able to do the 2 hour replacement & had the washer operational in less than two day from break down. Thanks to AppliancePartsPro, the item was in stock & less money then other sites. The repair was very easy. The hardest part was removing the very heavy Washer Tub assembly, which has concrete weights for balancing the load during a spin cycle. So make sure you have someone strong enough to help remove the washer tub, then reinstall once you've replaced the basket. 

I went on youtube and found the APP. video and found the how change the bearings on a HE3 washer. Very Helpful and easy to follow. When I took the washer apart I noticed the spider was broken and bought the entire washer drum. Reinstalled everything. Ran approx 8 loads so far and everything seems to be working like new. I watched all of the available UTube videos on replacing the spin basket on my Sears Kenmore Elite He3 model and it made the job very easy to do. It is definitely a 2 person job as the drum is pretty heavy and 1 person can't do it by theirselves. Part from appliancepartspro was nicely priced - 1/2 the price Kenmore wanted for it. 

I initially thought the bearings were the problem, but upon disassembly, found the Spider to have one leg cracked clean through, a second leg racked about two thirds of the way and a number of holes where the legs meet the shaft area. These Washing Machines have become fairly notorious for this problem and the Spider is not available individually, it must be purchased as a complete assembly with the stainless steel tub. Search out videos on the Internet for complete instructions on disassembly/reassembly. I disassembled the machine to get to the tub assembly and removed it, you will need two people for this. Once removed, I separated the outer tub halves, removed and replaced the original inner and outer tub bearings. I visually inspected and cleaned all parts and hoses prior to reassembly, which added about an hour to the job. I reassembled the unit and have run ten loads consecutively with zero problems. Appliancepartspros.com has the best price at $378 including over night shipping. I was quoted $810 plus shipping at Kenmore and $575 for the part locally. Being able to get the parts needed at a reasonable price meant that I didn't have to spend over $1000 for an equally good washer. This machine has run excellent for 15 years, it has a large capacity, low water usage and is quiet. I found that machines under $1000 were not satisfactory in performance. Replaced with new basket. 

After I disassembly I found bearings failed and the basket spider shaft was worn out. Ordered new sets of bearings. I ordered new basket assembly (can't order spider shaft separately!). Replaced all the parts and reassembled. The washing machine works like new. 

Bracket on back of drum was cracked, replaced drum assembly 

Replaced the basket bearings and seal, and replaced the basket due to cracked spider brace on rear.
