How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013143 / WP8546219 Control Board

Replaced main control board. Followed video, which had several helpful tips about removing connectors, etc., as well as info about how to remove the top of the unit and where to find the control board. The repair went smoothly and the dryer started right up after I put everything back together. Very satisfied! 

A quick look through appliance parts pro helped me isolate and diagnose the problem. Ordered the correct part and installed with the assistance of the video. A huge kudos for having the diagnostics and repair videos available to the do-it-yourselfer. 

Replaced electronic controller board. 

Went online to "Just Answer", and the technician helped me through some troubleshooting steps until I determine it was the control board. When I removed the board, it was evident there was a component that had failed (black/burnt location on the board). Order the replacement board and installed it myself. 

Bought circuit board. Great installation video on site. Worked perfect. 

Replaced control board which was defective, also replaced the drive belt as a preventive measure. Watching YouTube video was a big help in understanding how to disassemble the cabinet to replace the drive belt. 

Checked the motor circuit and had 2.6 ohmns, needed 1 - 6 ohmns. Also checked the Door and broken belt switches. Changed the control board and the dryer started up. While I had the dryer apart I cleaned the lint from everything. The Dryer is 13 years old. Hope to get another 13 years out of it.

Fixing the problem (replacing the control board) was cinch-- took about 5 minutes. The tedious part, for this greenhorn-dryer-technician was researching what and how to troubleshoot. Tested everything I read about: door switch, thermal fuse, thermistor, motor, drive belt, control panel, etc. Removing and replacing all the parts (particularly drum and door panel) by myself required a bit of effort. After I determined that nothing else was wrong, I went ahead and bought the replacement control board, even though I could not see any visible damage. Nothing was particularly difficult, just a bit time consuming for a first time effort. 

Ordered new control board from AppliancePatrsPros.com. When we received the part we watched the video posted on the site on how to replace the control board, then we got to it. It went pretty smoothly, we didn't even swear at each other, which is our usual MO when working together on things like this. Can't thank you enough for helping us get the right part, and especially for the video, we'd have gotten it done on our own, but it was a whole lot easier after watching someone else do it first.
