We turned the control knob to off, and all of the flame and sparking stopped. I looked this up on the Internet, and it seems to be a common problem. Appliancepartspros had the best price, and the part was in stock. Ordered the next morning and had it shipped overnight. The next night, I removed the old element. Just two screws hold it in place. Swapped the wires over, and fastened the screws back in place, and done. The old element fell apart at the burned spot. The surface reminded me of sparklers, very rough in the burned area.
Thank you Applianceparts pros for having the part in stock, and for getting it out so quickly. The cost, even with overnight shipping was less than just a service call would have been!
