How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011872 / WP8183202 Washer Door Hinge

My local Maytag dealer told me the part was no longer available after telling me off and on from March until September that Maytag no longer made the part for my 5 year old washer. Appliance parts told me that it was on back order when I ordered the part from them in early September. I thought here we go again.They kept me updated on the order status by email. The genuine part arrived on 8 October. I installed it that afternoon. The Appliance Parts video was very helpful as I would probably remove the entire door frame to put the hinge on the door. instead I remove only 8 screws and lifted up the frame to take the old hinge out and slip the new one under the frame. The video saved a lot of work. I took me about 30 minutes from start to finish because I am 84 and slow. a younger person could do it much faster. 

I ordered the new hinge which was the right part and fast shipping. I did just what the repair video showed me and it was fixed in about 20 minutes. 

Once I noticed the hinge was failing, I looked online and run across appliancepartspros.com, looked up the part via model number search. Found that the parts was a reasonable price compared to other sites I had visited. What sealed the deal for me is they had a video describing how to replace the hinge which I watched. Figured this will be easy to replace and ordered the part. The part came a day earlier that promised, add bonus. Recalling the video I was able to replace the hinge with a torx driver and 10 minutes of my time. Best purchase, learning and replacement experience I have every had. So on Thursday morning my washing machine door hinge broke. I did a quick Google search for the part number for my model and came to Appliance Parts Pros. I looked at other sellers but Appliance Part Pros was one of the lowest. There was another retailer who had the same price but Appliance Part Pros had a video showing exactly what needed to be some to complete the repair. It was clear who to buy from. The part arrived to my front door Saturday morning. I swapped out the hinge before my wife could even know the door was broken. Found part. Watched video. I can do that. When part arrived, I did exactly as video described. It works perfect. By doing it myself, it saved me $90. 

Thinking I would need a repair person, I first wanted to locate the part and see approx cost of part. I googled Whirlpool with model of washer, and found out part number. I then googled part number and found AppliancePartsPros website. Since I have successfully benefited from repair videos in the past, I went directly to APP's video on this part. I was so happy to see that I (64 yr old female) could easily fix it myself. I ordered part and it came in a few days. I fixed it with only one minor delay. I wasn't sure what a 20 torque driver was and thought I would have to buy one. I examined the screws and realized they were what I would call "star" heads and then realized I had that tool. Only recommendation for video - show or explain the tool for us "tool challenged". 

I followed the instructions in the video and was done in less than 15 mins. Very easy to install. I am pleased with the performance of the part and happy to have a fully functional washer door again.
