How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008663 / WP35-6780 Washer Drain Pump Assembly

I hack sawed the melted shiv off the drive motor and installed the new shiv. I re-installed drive motor onto the machine. I installed the new drain pump onto the machine. I installed the new belt onto the drive motor, pump, and transfer case. Machine worked. Your videos were very helpful as well. 

Hinged up the top of the washer, removed two screws that secured the front panel, tipped the machine backwards to remove the belt, unbolted the old pump and installed the new one. Reverse sequence to put it back together and it runs like a champ. Oh, and replaced both top clips with new ones. 

I did a search of the possible problems and saw that it could be the transmission pulley or the washer drain pump. I rotated the fanbelt and saw a wobble on the washer drain pump pulley so decided to check AppliancePartsPros.com. On receiving the part, I took another look at the installation video, made and followed a procedure listing and Viola! Success. 

I tilted it back and looked at the belt. It was somewhat shredded. The water pump pulley had some 'play' like the bearings were worn, and the motor pulley looked bad. I ordered those parts online from AppliancePartsPros.com late Tuesday or Wednesday night. It's a bummer not having a washing machine for long. I was pleased and surprised to receive the parts on Friday (two days...wow!). It took me about hour to replace the bad parts. It works like new now! 

After taking off the lid, front panel, and removing the casing I had not found any problems with any switches or timers. I then decided to take the belt off and found a damaged part on the bottom of the drain pump. I searched online and found the part I need at AppliancePartsPros.com. I put the machine back together and waited for the part to arrive. I installed the drain pump quickly, put the belt back on and crossed my fingers and toes. After a successful "no clothes" wash cycle I ran a small load and was still happily dry and draining. I used the machine all weekend and have seen no problems so far. This was my first actual washing machine repair. Identifying the problem was difficult and time consuming for me, The actual repair was quick and easy. 

REPLACED HOSE AND REPLACED THE PUMP AS A PROBABLE FUTURE PROBLEM WAS GONNA CHANGE THE BELT BUT I ORDERED THE WRONG PART. GOT A TUB SEAL INSTEAD. i DIDN'T READ THE PARTS LIST RIGHT (DUMB) THE MACHINE WORKS PERFECTLY THOUGH. WILL ORDER THE BELT LATER TO HAVE ONE ON HAND JUST IN CASE. ORDER WAS QUICK AND EASY. THANKS. 

After much internet research my husband decided to try replacing the drain pump. That did the trick! It's working as normal again. There was still undrained water in the washer so have lots of towels on hand or a hose to funnel out some of the water. 

Replaced washer drain pump 

Layed the washer on it's front. Found metal shavings on the floor under a loose pulley. Ordered a new pump with pulley attached. Took out a few screws and loosened and slid the hoses off. Put new pump on and replaced the screws and hoses and tightened everything up.
