Our washer started making an awful loud scraping/grinding noise for about a month. I knew from research that it was probably the drive belt on the bottom or one of the pulleys. Last week I opened the washer to find it full of water yet. I then knew that it was the pump that was the culprit. Ordered the new assembly and received it in 2 days. Installation of this part was very simple. I found a video on youtube from fix.com that showed how to disassemble the washer to access the pump assembly. It was very easy.
I pushed in the lid spring locks using a putty knife and swung the lid up, then removed the 5/16 screws holding the front panel on. After removing the front panel I unfastened the pump assembly's 3/8 inch bolts from the frame. Doing this first makes it easier to maenuver the hoses to a bucket to drain any remaining water that may still be in the tub. Unhook the tub hose and be ready for a rush of water if there was water in the tub. It comes out quick. After the water is drained from the tub hose do the same for the drain hose. Also pour any remaining water out of the old pump assembly and dispose of the assembly. Hook the new assembly back up in reverse order, put the washer back together and test.
