How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

Replaced ice maker assembly. 

Installed a new ice maker. 

After researching the problem, I decided to order a replacement ice maker for my KitchenAid french door bottom freezer refrigerator. Though the video on this site was very helpful, it showed a top placement, which would be easier to access. Some youtube videos showed the bottom drawer lifting out, but mine needed 4 screws to remove the freezer drawer, and the rest of the installation went great! The only thing I would say is the part where the water comes into the icemaker is slightly different than the one pictured. The original part has a hole, and the replacement part has a piece of plastic that needs to be removed. I scored it with an exacto knife and carefully bent it until it came off. The water supply hose would then fit perfectly. I'd also recommend taking pictures before and after and along the way, so you can check your work.

Replaced the icemaker kit. It works just fine now! It should work a while longer now, until the next time. Then it will be plenty old enough to buy a new fridge by then. 

I bought a new ice maker for our fridge. 

Ice maker was relatively easy to replace following the enclosed instructions. After two days it was still not making ice so we checked for waterline problems. My 1998 Kenmore refrigerator did not have a waterline filter. We called an online repair person and they advised us to check the solenoid at the base of the waterline which controls when the water fills the ice maker. This part was replaced and the ice started up just fine. Thank you for making this project relatively easy. Rosemary, Cape Coral, FL 

Ordered the replacement part and installed it. Simple as that. 

Ordered a replacement. THE HARDEST PART WAS GETTING INSIDE THE BOTTOM FREEZER. HAD TO TAKE THE FRONT OF THE DRAWER OFF AND WAS NOT ABLE TO REMOVE THE TOP DRAWER. HAD TO WORK AROUND IT. 

I've had this issue for a while. Cleaned the ice maker a few times, tried to isolate the source but never could. After cleaning the ice bin each time it made ice there would be an "ice dam" forming underneath. After about a week it would build to the bottom of the ice maker and I'd have to pull the bin, dump the ice dam (now about half the capacity of the bin) and start over. After looking at other posts with the same problem it appeared replacing the ice maker assembly was the cure. So I did it, a few days in and no ice formation! So I still am not sure where the actual leak was coming from but its resolved now!
