How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011545 / WP777811 Directional Switch

Replaced switch 

Replaced the power nuts I messed up the directional switch replacing the ram and had to replace the switch also 

Replaced switch. 

As recommended by the u-tube video, all parts worked perfectly. 

Removed front control panel. Removed switch and reassemble 

Ordered a new one. I am amazed all parts available for the trash compactor it is old but reliable, unlike the newer stuff. Whirlpool brand. 

I replaced the power nuts. Still didn't work properly. Found the directional switch and pushed the button. Worked the ram moved. Realized that the problem was a broken arm on the switch. Now the appliance works fine. 

Since the normal function worked, this eliminated the Motor centrifugal switch being the problem leaving only the cycle switch (the switch selecting Normal or Solid Locked) or the Top Limit Directional Switch being the problem. Since I rarely change the cycle switch... it's normally always left in the Solid Locked position I suspected the top switch since it's cycled continuously. I ordered the replacement switch from AppliancePartsPro at about 1:00p.m. on Tuesday and the part was delivered to me around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday... I was impressed! I replaced the switch and the compactor is back to working correctly. 

After locating the switch on your site, ordering, and receiving, my husband and I used some contact cement to hold the "bracket style nut" in place and a crescent wrench to tighten the bolts. Once the wires were back in place, it works like a charm! Not bad for a 30 year old Sears Kenmore compactor!! 

Ordered new directional switch from APP.com. Perfect match on the part even though my appliance is 26 yrs old. Less than a half hour is was good as new.
