At first it took longer and longer to dry, finally no dry at all. Also the dryer would not continue on the "anti-wrinkle" start-stop cycle, but just stop once. On a previous dryer, I had successfully replaced the thermostats. Time to break out the multimeter again.
Fired up my trusty YouTube, and found a video for Whirlpool dryers that stepped through the testing of the thermostats and timer. In the video, the timer was the culprit, which also proved to be the case for me. The part was clearly labeled, and I was able to order it online and get it the next day. The install was two screws and some plugs, et voila! a working dryer.
