How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006207 / WP22001252 Timer (Washer)

Read on this site what the problem was, what part we needed, saw others with similar problem. Ordered part next day shipment, got it, installed very easily. I am not a skilled repairmen, but if you read up ahead of time, look at the diagrams or watch a video. Be sure to remove the center cap on the big timer knob, and undo the clip. Look up the knob diagram like I did so you understand. If you try to pull or pry the cap off you will break it and cost more money. Saved the cost of a repairman or even buying a new machine. 

Replaced the timer. Had trouble figuring out how to actually install it. Specifically, how to remove the front-facing dial which is attached to the timer. On my particular model, the middle of the dial had to be pryed out. Some models you unscrew it, and some others you pull a tab apparently. I had to do the other obvious things as well, such as unscrewing the front-frace plate, disconnecting the wires from the old timer. Oh, and unplugging the machine from the wall. That's probably the important thing that i did. I've heard that electrocution kind of sucks. It took me half an hour to (unsuccessfully) google how to remove the dial, but after figuring it out, replacement took less than 10 mins. 

Replaced timer unit... It was EASY! Part was exact replacement unit. Just remove the old one and put in the new. There are no instructions with the timer unit. But, it is very easy: 1. Remove center cover from timer control knob 2. Remove C-clip that holds knob to shaft 3. Remove knob and spring 4. Remove two screws at top of control panel 5. Tip control panel forward 6. Unplug the two control cables from the timer 7. Remove the old timer 8. Mount the new timer 9. Plug in the control cables 10. Reassemble & test Success! 

After waiting wks & being sold the wrong part from a competitor, I had used AAP but lost the info . A very knowledgeable lady looked up my #s and found the correct part .It arrived quickly .(without xtra $} It was an ez job to switch out I will not bother to go to any other site/Co. for my home repairs Thank your for your great service !! . 

The troubleshooting help from Appliance Parts Pros helped narrow it down to the problem being either the door switch, the belts, or the timer. A quick check showed the door switch was operating correctly. I assumed the belts were good since the other functions worked. That left the timer. I ordered the timer on Wednesday and it was on the doorstep within 24 hours. I had the washing machine operational that afternoon. I diagnosed the problem by shorting around the timer to verify the motor was still working. When I found that it was, I ordered a new timer and a few minutes time to install it and voila we have a functioning washer for less then 20% of a new one. 

Went to google to troubleshoot problem. Ordered part from Appliance Parts Pros. Very fair price and delivery was faster than I expected. Easy install. Remove knob and panel cover. Remove two bolts from old timer mount. Pull two plugs from old part and install new. I saved a bunch of bucks by forgoing a service call and had the fun of doing it myself. 

I bought and replaced the timer unit. It was an easy fix that took me about ten minutes. It would have taken five minutes if instructions came with the product, which I would have appreciated. The hand up was figuring out how the front knob came off, and that there was a little cotter type pin holding the mechanism onto the face of the washer control panel. Put the new timer on, plugged in the two switch harnesses, and put it back together. It worked perfectly. 

My husband received the part a day early. As soon as the mail ran and we saw it had arrived, he went right away to install the part. Fit in perfectly and did the wash that day. All seems to be well and hope it holds up for a while longer. 1-2 years :) 

Just like the other reviews screw driver,socket. I removed the dial by pulling off the knob, used the screw driver to pop off small clip holding on the base of the knob, removed the 4 screws on top of the metal frame, removed the 2 screws that held the front plate to the timer, this allowed the front panel to flipped down, unplugged the wires, reassembled.
