How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5325072 / W10447783 Washer Bearing Installation Tool

Bought the kit and bearing installation tool. Video was quite helpful and we followed it all the way through. Only negative comment is that the bearing installation tool did NOT center the bearing spacer tube or the washer precisely enough and we could not even pound the drive shaft in past them. We had to lightly tap the lower bearing out a few thousandths of an inch to allow the spacer and washer to be centered. We re-centered the washer and spacer tube, then re-torqued with the tool. By chance they stayed centered the second time. Next time, a little tape on the tool portions that go through the bearings inner race hole would help center the spacer and washer. But all-in-all, the repair was quite easy. 

I ordered the proper replacement kit and installation tool from appliancepartspros.com I entered the clothes washer model noumber and a parts list popped up. I'm an auto mechanic by trade. The also have repair videos on their website. Video was great to reference. Repair was very easy and my washer works like new again. 

With the help of a representative at appliance parts pros. it was determined to be one of three things. 1) The suspension rods. 2)cracks in the stater 3) State of on the bearings and shaft. I thought the suspension springs were the problem. Ruled that out by lifting the drum and letting it fall, and observing the bounce. There should be no bounce. I did go to the extent of removing each rod and cleaning it. Next step, expose the stater by removing the motor housing. No cracks. I noticed the dirt and corrosion on the motor shaft and bearings indicating the tub seal had failed. Using the ordered “bearing and tub seal kit” along with the “bearing installation tool”, I was able to fix the problem. The tool was essential in this repair, don’t skimp in buying this tool or your job will take much longer to complete. I also had to use a car jack and 2 x 4 to separate the tub from the shaft instructed by a YouTube video. The washer is working like new. I replaced the bearings and seal. There were no directions in the box though, so I went to youtube if I had any questions. 

Purchased bearing and tub seal kit with bearing installation tool. Note: I did not use the grease and adhesive supplied. Instead, I used Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket sealant on the shaft seal (outer diameter) and synthetic auto bearing grease on the bearings and inner diameter of the shaft seal. After installation, I ran three wash cycles to rinse the machine out prior to washing any clothes. 

After reading blogs and watching the AppliancePartsPros videos, I was convinced I had bearings out before pulling it apart. I ordered the bearing and tub seal kit and installation tool along with an additional basket hub. Two days later I had the machine apart with parts in hand. The repair video covered almost everything but a split bearing. The fragments of the old bearing housing were small enough to miss and it prevented me from seating the new bearing. After some face time in the tub, I found the issue and used a twisting action with a screwdriver between the tub and old bearing housing to break the part free. It shattered instead of easing out(use safety glasses as these parts were sharp small and really fast). Once the old part was out, the machine went back together after an 8-hour cure and is running quietly again. Thx AppliancePartsPros!

I ordered a bearing kit and installation tools. I watched the DIY video and successfully put my washer back to service. Thanks to the DIY video. 

Replaced bearings, tub seal, basket hub, and driveshaft. Replaced basket hub simply due to access. The video linked to the bearing and drive shaft parts was integral to doing this right. No issues at all with the install. Only piece of advice is plan on using a car jack and 2x4 for separating the drive shaft from the tub. It was a waste of 30 minutes trying to get it off before moving to using the car jack. Even with the jack, it took forever and considerable force to remove. 

I replaced everything in the repair kit. Don’t worry if the tub won’t lift off the driveshaft, you can always lay the machine forward, remove the stator and cover. Then push the driveshaft up and remove the tub with the driveshaft still stuck in it. Then using a 2x4 about 2 foot long push/hit the driveshaft out from the top of the tub. Follow the video after that. Took about 2hrs. I suppose you could make your bearing tool but I bought the tool and it worked perfectly.
