Fix a dryer that won't heat or spins without igniting. This igniter assembly lights the gas burner to start drying cycles. Common DIY repair, 30-45 minutes.
Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. After looking at the insides again, I suppose it is possible that it was a connection near the burner, but that stuff had remained untouched for 10 years so I still think I made a good assumption. I got a new ignitor as well since I was in there, and compared to the valve, it was cheap! I thought I could get in... Read more
If your washer won't start or the lid won't unlock, the lid lock switch may have failed. This DIY repair typically takes 10-15 minutes with basic tools.
1) Ordered part. 2) Removed front panel by loosening the two screws at the bottom front. 3) Removed old Safety Switch/Lid Lock by disconnecting wires (plug and 2 female disconnects) 4) Reconnected all wires and reinstalled switch. 5) Replaced front panel. 6) Tested Unit. 7) FYI - I found that the locking mechanism stays locked until cycle completely finishes on its own. I replaced the door boot with a new one from AppliancePartsPros.com. The most difficult part was starting at the back end of the new boot onto the stationary rim, just in front of the tub. And then anchoring it in place with the existing spring from the previous boot. To start the boot I had to hook the top edge of the boot, where the arrow tab is, onto the rectangular projection on the tub rim and then roll the rubber boot edge down around the tub rim and hope the rim was going into the... Washer motor won't start or stops mid-cycle? This motor start capacitor stores electrical energy to start your washer motor. Moderate DIY repair.
I found your site which was most helpful. I saw on your forum, that others had replaced a motor & capacitor with + results. I was willing to spend what I thought was a reasonable amount & your guarantee was the clincher. I knew that if I called the appliance store where we had purchased the washer in 1998, it would be very expensive & even more important, it would take many days as they would have to order the part & then schedule a service call. I installed the motor & capacitor & was... Read more

Timer won't advance or dryer runs continuously? This timer control restores proper cycle progression in auto and timed modes. DIY-friendly repair.
I ordered the timer and knob on Monday, they arrived around noon on Tuesday, and within an hour I had them installed and back in business. I was amazed how quickly the parts got here. The online video showing the procedure step by step was very helpful. Instead of disconnecting all the wires and having to keep up with which one went where, I moved each wire one by one and made sure I didn't get any of them in the wrong place. The only thing that slowed me down a bit was seeing which side of the... Read more
