Alex D Sanford , FL December 22, 2016 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSS26MSWASS Low water pressure and flow from the water dispenser on ge profile refrigerator The refrigerator is about 8-9 years old. GE Profile side by side with water and ice dispenser in the freezer door. Recently, it was time to replace the MSWF cartridge (the indicator light came on). I've done this numerous times over the years, but on this occasion, after installing the new cartridge, I noticed a significant drop in the water pressure and quantity coming out of the dispenser. The ice maker did not seem to be affected, but the water dispenser was definitely a slow trickle. I removed and replaced the new filter several times, but had no improvement. Thinking the filter was bad I took it back to Home Depot and exchanged for another, but that one also resulted in the same problem - low pressure and flow out of the water dispenser. After doing some research on the internet, I found that the water filter housing (mount, bracket, - "the thing that you twist the filter into") has a plastic "nipple" or tip that gets pushed in when you install the filter. This allows water to flow into the filter and also stops water from coming out when you remove the filter. Well, it seems that nipple or tip can break or malfunction after a few years. So I purchased a new water filter housing from AppliancePartsPros.com and it arrived within a couple of days. Rolled the fridge out away from the wall. Shut off the water supply to the fridge - be gentle - especially if your shut off valve is old or has not been touched in years. Removed bottom back cardboard panel. Gently disconnected the 2 water lines with pliers and adjustable wrench. Used nut driver to remove the water line cover at the top of the back of the fridge where the water lines go into it. Inside the fridge, I removed a plastic cover over the filter housing (gently pry it off) and then used nut driver to detach the filter housing. Gently pulled the filter housing from the inside of the fridge. It's a good idea to have someone on the back side of the fridge guiding the water lines through the hole and protecting the putty like insulation that is around the hole. Completely removed the old filter housing, and simply replaced it with new one by following the same steps in reverse order. All together it took about 30-40 minutes, and that includes vacuum and clean up of the back of the fridge and the floors. With the new filter housing, water is flowing with lots of pressure, and as it should. A 10 to 12 ounce glass of water takes about 8 to 10 seconds to fill. Easy work. Probably saved about $150 for an appliance repair person to come to my house. Robert M Lorain , OH March 29, 2020 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PSS26MSWASS Ice maker not working and no filtered water dispensed. Did trouble shoot and found the Water Filter Manifold was not working. Replacement of water filter did not contact the activation valve in the manifold which did not allow the flow of water to the ice maker or water dispenser. Replaced the Manifold and now the system is working fine. Zack P Norfolk , VA April 16, 2018 Water not working When I did a routine filter change, the water stopped working. I thought it might be the filter and reinstalled the old filter but it no longer worked either. I installed the filter bypass plug thinking maybe there was air in the line or something and it didn't work either. Finally I found somewhere online that there's a tiny little button on the Water Filter Housing, that keeps water from leaking during a filter change, and when the the filter is installed, the button is depressed and lets water flow. I guess our little button thing wore down and was not getting depressed enough when the filter was installed. We purchaed a new Water Filter Housing & Tube Assembly from AppliancePartsPros and now water is flowing perfectly from the door and ice production has started again.
