I tipped the washer and disassembled the parts to be replaced and then installed a new clutch, clutch spring and mode shifter. No more grinding! I am a 47yo mom with some mechanical ability (e.g. can change the oil in a vehicle) and this repair was easy-took less than an hour. Joe F Hatfield , PA November 14, 2025 My ge washing machine which is just 4 years old was making a grinding type noise during the wash cycle After looking at the parts break out and researching on line I made the decision to replace the shift actuator, clutch gear and spring, transmission pulley, and drive belt. Operation is normal after the repair but I think the service life of these components is way too short and I intend to keep some replacements in stock for the future.
