I replaced all 4 suspension rods and springs and now it spins very smooth. They weren't broken, just badly worn. It gave new life to my 15 year old GE Profile washer. They are basically springs, so they wear after a while. It was well worth the hour I spent fixing it. You need a good long reach to get to the back 2 and you have to take off the dampening straps and the control panel so you can gain access. I shopped around a bit - found one retailer that only had 1 shock in stock, another that only stocked the front shocks, etc. There is definitely a difference in the springs between the green colored and white colored shocks! I've torn this washer down before, so I'm fairly familiar with how it's put together. I literally could have done this job with a blindfold on! No kidding. Come on people! My grandmother could have done this one! Since the rubber gasket/skirt in the front of the washer (seals the door) was twisted when the spring failed and the drum failed, I had to remove the wire hoop and spring that held it in place and readjust the skirt. Easy. Them I removed the top of the washer (6 screws). Easy. Immediately you could see the failed spring. I ordered 2 springs so I could replace both... Read more

Got a small piece of sheet metal for Home Depot, Cut it to fit, and drilled holes to fit. Replaced spring and plastic holder, and put it back together. Spring was a little tricky to put on, because of the spring strength, but I got it. Read more

I researched the problem and found that normal wear and tear will cause the Damper shocks and the Suspension spring to fail. I decided to replace all Damper Shocks and the suspension Springs since I had the washer apart already. The Suspension Spring requires a lot of pull to get it in place correctly. I made a hook tool (from political yard sign frame) to hook the old spring to remove and pull the new spring up. It helps to have a second person use leverage (use a short 2x2 board) under the... Replaced all 4 shocks, and 2 suspension springs. The overall fix was easy for the shocks which only require a quarter turn with a cresent wrench to replace. The suspension springs are more difficult because the bottom of the washer drum must be supported due to the substantial weight. I used a car jack to support the drum from the bottom and a long bunge wrapped around the main drive pulley. I.would not have been able to do this as a one person without it. I didn't end up fixing it. I guessed wrong that it was the Damper Shocks. They came quickly thought and install was a snap. The drum still knocks in spin cycle and that's a major disassembly repair I don't care to do. Read more

One of the springs and one of the shocks broke on my washing machine. ordered both parts and repaired the washer. took the lower front plate off and top off. raised the drum to replace the spring and then pulled the pins out from the broken shock and also replaced the other shock so I wouldn't have to worry if that one breaks.
