Bottom dollar fridge parts break when you look at it wrong thank goodness for app. William G. • Canton , CT • November 24, 2017
Maybe 6 or 7 years ago I had a fridge conk out on me just before Christmas. It was loaded with food for the holiday, including a prime rib roast that was the hope and dream of the holiday for every red-blooded non-vegan in the house.
In order to save the day I bottom-dollared a Frigidaire replacement. It performs well temperature-wise, but when it was only a couple years old the door handle cracked wide open. It was so delicate, you'd think that it was a movie prop "Break-Away Refrigerator...

Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016
My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases.
Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was...

21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died. John P. • Enola , PA • August 02, 2019
Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health!
I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I...

This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015
This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart.

Refrigerator meat drawer side supports were broken Joseph T. • Cohoes , NY • January 09, 2016
Ordered left and right side supports and they arrived in two days! It took me longer to get stuff out of the way in the fridge so I could take the shelf out than it did to actually swap out the side supports.
Parts fit perfectly and quick easy repair.

The bottom heating element wasn't working in top oven Kevin Scott W. • Parker , CO • January 09, 2015
Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old...

Refrigerator making loud noises or not cooling? A worn evaporator fan blade often causes these issues. DIY-friendly repair typically takes 30 minutes.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
1: loud noise on freezer side. 2: no water dispensing Matt M. • Pickett , WI • February 05, 2021
1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was.
2. I couldn't get water to dispense, so I changed the filter and that wasn't the problem. I ordered a water valve and crossed my fingers. These parts arrived...

Broken meat pan hangers and drawers Christine T. • West Chester , PA • September 19, 2017
I removed the meat drawer and shelving unit. I unscrewed the Philips head screws on either side of the shelf brackets. I cleaned the old surfaces and fitted the new plastic hangers in place. I screwed the new hangers in place with the screws I had from the old ones. It was very easy, except the holes in the plastic hanger are not quiet big enough for the screws. I had to push very hard with the screwdriver, and started to strip the head of the screw as well at the screwdriver itself. I did...

Broken handle on refrigerator door Margaret J. • North Olmsted , OH • January 29, 2016
I ordered a replacement handle and screws. The process was very easy with the help of one of your "pros" who found all the parts needed and took my order. I didn't realize I was getting both a refrigerator door handle and a freezer door handle in one set, but now we have the freezer handle if we need it. Removing the old handle and installing the replacement was very easy. It looks great, in fact the replacement is metal, whereas the original was plastic, so it looks better than it ever did!

I originally ordered the Fan motor from a appliance dealer. I waited for 5 days for it to arrive. In the meantime I scavenge a motor from a junk refrigerator from the dump. It worked while I waited for the motor from the appliance dealer. When I picked it up 5 days later it was the "wrong" part. I was fuming mad.
