This tub ring mounts to the top of the washer's outer tub to act as a splash guard and cover. Replacing a cracked or loose ring helps contain wash water and helps prevent leaks or debris from the top. What it does:
- Forms the upper splash guard around the outer tub to keep water contained during wash and spin
- Serves as the top cover at the tub opening, locking in with tabs/clips
- Damage (cracks, broken tabs) may lead to leaks from the top, rattling, or a loose ring
- Visible wear can leave plastic fragments in the basket or around the tub opening
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power and turn off water supplies before servicing
- Lift or remove the top/console per model design to access the tub opening; support the lid
- Release the locking tabs/clips and remove the old ring; clean the tub lip
- Align and press the new ring evenly until all tabs fully engage; reassemble and test

Excessive vibration during spin cycle Jackie H. • Dunbar , WV • September 10, 2018
This was the second attempt at fixing this problem. The first repair and parts were generated by listing the problem and reviewing the potential corrections, listed on the web site. From making repairs on other clothes washers, I was confident that some of those potential causes could have been the cause. Unfortunately the counterbalance spring and suspension springs were not the cause as they were attached as intended and in good condition.
I reached out for Appliance Parts Pros input...

This retainer ring is a genuine OEM replacement part sourced directly from the manufacturer for use on front load washing machines to hold the boot seal in place. The boot seal is the gasket that seals the washing machine when the door is closed to prevent water from leaking. The retainer ring is located flush against the boot seal and has either a spring clamp or screw clamp that secures it. Over time, this ring may become damaged due to the washing machine's normal use and age. If the ring is not tight, the washing machine could leak when in use. If water is coming from the door, it is a good idea to inspect and replace the retainer ring and possibly the boot as well.Unplug the washing machine to prevent electrocution. Remove the front panel, the detergent dispenser, and the kickplate to access the retainer ring. Locate the clamp on the ring and loosen it. Remove the retainer ring and set it to the side. Inspect the boot and then install the new retainer ring. Tighten the clamp and reassemble the washing machine. This retainer ring is sold as an individual unit. It is designed specifically for washing machines manufactured by Whirlpool.

Door sensor...
Since door sensor worked correctly, verified that by starting washer with door open, and agitate cycle would not start until door was closed. Meaning door sensor worked correctly.
Timer...
In high spin cycle washer sounded correcltly spinning, but when opening door, drum was was not moving. So timer was triggering...

Just tested and everything seems to work as new. Not bad for a machine 12-15 years old.
I looked at new ones but the EPA has turned them into...

Leaks in kenmore washer Louis K. • Atlantic Beach , FL • January 19, 2020
Replaced direct drive washer pump, the wash tub gasket and the fill hose. I also replaced the direct drive motor coupling since the rubber was deteriorated. Removing the inner wash tub for the gasket change is challenging, especially in older machines. 24 hours before starting the removal, spray penetrating oil around the lip of the washer drive block. Parts were competitively priced and arrived very quickly. The how-to-videos were very helpful!

Agitator was not turning Edward M. • Glen Allen , VA • March 10, 2019
I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. This step was really messy and I had to wait for the liquid gasket to set prior to completing the repair. Cleaning and prep of all of the parts tripled the repair time.

Washer was "dead" with a partially washed load and would not do anything Jimmy M. • Hopewell , VA • September 19, 2014
Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!)
Ordered the lid switch and it was an easy repair. A $14.00 switch was a lot cheaper than a $450.00 washer. Thanks appliance parts...
