• Not drying dishes properly

My Whirlpool dishwasher (wdf520padm3) started leaving food on dishes and not drying dishes as well as it used to, even when I ran the 'high temp' and 'heavy' cleaning options. • Leaking

I thought it was the gasket so I ordered a new one. While waiting for it to arrive I read some other forums where I read that sometimes the air vent on the front could be dirty and cause leaking. I popped out that vent cover and it was clogged. Using an old toothbrush and a tiny paint brush I cleaned all of the gunk out. No more leak even with the old gasket in place. I'll save the new gasket for when I need it in the future. Read more

Replaced heater element: Once I had the dishwasher out of the cabinet with supply hose, drain hose and electric disconnected, removing the heater element was fast and easy. However, it was confusing that the new heater element had rubber washers on it already, something not mentioned in the product listing, although kinda visible in the photo. I had previously disassemble the pump assembly to find what I at first thought was an oddly shaped spring, which it was. What I learned by researching the parts was that the spring's odd shape was a result of something having gotten caught in the pump and jamming the impeller. After ordering the parts, I watched the "repair video" a few time and proceeded to remove and replaced the affected parts. Just replaced the things. Had to reuse old tine rows, rollers, the spray arm, etc., i.e. I removed 'em from the old racks and put on the new ones, but that was piece of cake. Also, I cleaned the food grinder and the discharge valve compartment (thank you very ???? ???? much, Internet), so spray arms around the top rack get enough water pressure now. Appeared to be two problems: the latch was worn and one of the pins that slid in a guide on the actuator located in the inner panel had broke off. Detergent lid spring and pin appeared to be OK but decided to replace since I was aready working on it. I ordered all the inner panel mechanism from the control arm to the latch actuator on the inner panel. The repair was successful as the detergent dispenser now opens during its cycle. Read more

• Door won't close

I ordered the Door Switch Kit, along with a few other items. However, the switch kit was all that was needed. Isimply followed the instructions that came with the kit. It was necessary to cut the wires which connected to the wire assembly in the door of the dishwasher. I then connected the pieces from the switch kit and then connected the end pieces to the door. I closed the door, and started up the dishwasher. It worked as well as before. Read more

I went to YouTube and put in my issue and saw the video on how to replace the seals and deflectors in my dishwasher. I then spoke to a local repair guy and he said that I was on the right track on replacing those parts first. The price he gave me were pretty high on the parts. I was able to go to Whirlpool website and obtain the part codes that I need to replace and found this website to be the cheapest. Appliance parts pro. Com.
