Washer banging and bouncing E M. • Debary , FL • February 24, 2018
My washing machine was making a loud thumping sound and bouncing around a bit. Research suggested that it could be bearings and/or the spider shaft assembly. After watching the instruction videos to replace the spider or bearings, I seen you need to replace both the shaft seal and tub gasket to get to the spider and bearings. So I ordered both and waited for them to arrive. Plan was to disassemble the washer, determine what was needed, order the additional parts needed, and reassemble after the...

We purchased our Samsung WF419 on a “Black Friday” special November 2009 expecting to get some good years out of the washer/dryer pair. We don’t run more than 2 or 3 loads a week in the washer, so ours has had relatively little use over the beginning of its anticipated and expected long life-cycle. When the “thumping” started on the spin cycle a...

Hose drain burst sending water all over the place Cynthia F. • Hilo , HI • April 16, 2020
Normally, I hire someone to come fix washer or dryer problems as time is limited and if the cost is close or more than the machine, I buy a new one instead. But since we are on shelter-in-place, I figure I could repair it since I have more time on my hands and my brother assured me, it was not hard to do. I took the top panel, door off and then looked online to find a service manual, which allowed me to take the front panel off. My suspected drain hose was the failure mode: the rubber tube...

Kenmore front load washer would not start no error code John A. • Woodinville , WA • January 24, 2017
The washing machine would allow you to program it, and all the lights on the control panel would light up, but pressing start did nothing. I tried putting the washer in diagnostic mode, but was unable to do so. The machine was not showing any fault code.
I originally thought it was a problem with the 'Start' button and I thought that I'd buy a replacement part from the original seller of the washer. I was told by the 'live help chat person' that the problem was likely in the washer user...

Very loud banging and shaking on spin cycle. Brent B. • Hudsonville , MI • April 20, 2020
I took apart the washer to find both of the weight balancers had broken in 2 and were banging around. They had also caused the boot seal to rip. I removed the broken weight balancers and replaced them along with a new boot seal. There was one small spot with the seal wasn't fully attached to the outer drum so I had to take it back apart to fix that minor error on my part. Otherwise, it was a fairly easy fix.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Samsung front load washer would not spin due to unbalanced spin cycle even empty. Jeffrey D. • Clive , IA • December 04, 2017
With all the bouncing around the shocks appeared to be done in but that was not the issue. The key was the balance ring. It had leaked all the fluid out causing all the beads to clump. This caused the drum to wobble wildly and not spin at speed.
Getting to the ring to replace it is not a trivial task and took me several hours. Would have been much easier with help as the drum is quite heavy. The on-line video's are very handy and should be watched before attempting this job to save you a...

Fix a washer that won't fill with water or leaks onto the floor. This water inlet valve controls water flow into your machine. DIY repair in 10 minutes.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Water leaking into drum or drum filling with water when not in use Kendall L. • Matthews , NC • May 22, 2016
The Cold Water Inlet Valve had a very good You Tube Video and I followed it. One note of caution, as I chuckled at the guy on the video saying watch for sharp edges, he was correct. When removing one of the lines from the valve, my pliers slipped and my elbow hit the front of the
machine(inside edge) and cut my elbow. So after that I draped the edges with towels to avoid that happening.
Again the fix was easy and very straight forward from the video. No extra pearls of wisdom here.

Strange noises spin cycle was shutting down bad burning smell Robert D. • Monroe Township , NJ • December 24, 2016
Google is your friend. Appliancepartspros is your friend too!!
I used the diagnostics to see why my 6 year old Samsung front loader makes a strange noise followed by a bad smell after it attempts the spin cycle. I used the manual that's taped to the back of the unit to put it in service mode, this helped me discover 2 things; My stay-at-home wife is not lying, she does a ton of laundry (over 4000 washes since we got the washer) AND it gets almost up to 700 rpms in the spin cycle and then...
