The Drain Pump is an OEM replacement part for Bosch dishwashers. It is responsible for pumping out dirty water from the dishwasher tub at the end of each cycle. The drain pump works to thoroughly empty the tub in a timely manner to facilitate a smooth transition to the next cycle.

Causes of a bad drain pump can include a clogged impeller or blockage of debris inside the pump housing that inhibits proper water flow.

Symptoms of a bad drain pump include:

  • Incomplete draining of water at the end of cycles
  • Water remaining or pooling at the bottom of the tub
  • Loud grinding or clicking noises emanating from the pump area
  • Cycles failing to advance or resume properly

This OEM Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau, and some Kenmore dishwashers.

Note: Due to a factory design change, connector part# 00623143 may also be needed.

Questions & Answers

For Bosch Drain Pump (Part Number: OEM11989995)

Hello Scott, This is normally caused by a bad water inlet valve 00263789. It will not allow the water to enter the unit at full force causing a "dribble" of water to drip into the base pan and float the flood switch. When the water valve is off, reach through the opening where the water valve mounts with a towel to "wick" the water out of the base before installing the new valve, (a towel with no fabric softener works best). This will reset the flood switch and allow the unit to cycle through normally. As far as the noise and smell, the drain pump 00165261 is the most common cause of this complaint. I'm sorry but the pump has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided.

Hello Tee. If not draining all the way, you will need to replace the drain pump. Then dry all water out from under the unit. Make sure the valve is not leaking into the unit. If it is , replace the valve on the unit.

Scott, With the noise coming in the drain cycle, you will want to check the drain pump to make sure that there is nothing caught in it. If there is nothing clogged in the drain pump then you would want to replace the drain pump 00642239.

Hello Gman. No, the impeller should be tight and should not be loose. It sounds like you need to replace the drain pump on the unit.

I am pretty sure that Saturday night we fried to drain pump in the dishwasher. I smelled a strange smell not like an overheated electric motor, etc., but more like a hot plastic and water in the bottom. I suspect a second (I found the first) piece of broken glass got past the larger metal piece that was not properly tied down and jammed the impeller. I would love to buy a new pump from you but I would first like to verify how to get the pump out. It appears to be behind a plastic piece that is itself behind the kick plate. Thanks very much.

The drain pump only runs for a few seconds at the end of each cycle. Leaves water in DW 3/4" high (from pan, not sump). The circulating pump continues to run during what should be the drain part of the cycle. At end of all cycles, dishes are kind of clean, and DW is still full of clean water. drain pump runs strong when it is running, it just quits before the job is done. Drain pump is capable of longer operation. When I do a clear cycle, it runs at the end until the sump is empty. I have cleaned out the drain, removed and cleaned the check valve. I am leaning towards the control module, but would like some confirmation. Thanks.

Hello Vince, If the drain pump operates properly in one cycle but not another, the issue will have to be the control module 00676964.

Duy, Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the impeller, core and bearing as separate parts and you would need to replace the drain pump assembly.

Dishwasher is leaving bottom full of clear water after it runs the wash cycle. Used your chat line an they suggested I change the control module behind the control panel part number AP2802870. Ordered that from you an changed it. Dishwasher still left clear water in bottom after wash cycle. Used chat line again an they suggested I change the door latch with new switch part number AP5657279. Changed that an still left clear water in bottom of dishwarsher after cycle. Used chat line again an they suggested I change control module behind control panel with control module part number AP3858379. Why two different part numbers for same control module? An was I given wrong number for control module? This last chat line talk they also suggested I change the pump motor part number AP399662 an use adapter part number AP5323611. Along with the new number for control module, part number AP3858379. Any idea what is wrong with dishwasher? The parts already changed, plus parts suggested I change will add up to just about what a new dishwasher will cost.

Hello Lloyd. Check and see if the water slowly fill the tub. If so, it is a bad water valve on the unit.

Hello JSR. Check and see if the leak is coming from the pump. If so, you do not have it seated properly or the housing is busted and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Elaine U. for Model Number Bosch SHV4803UC/U07 FD 8004

12 yr old Bosch Dishwasher won't drain at all, cleaned out bottom part and little rubber piece...no blockages. I'm guessing its the drain pump which seems easy to replace myself. What is the drain pump I would need to order? Also should I check anything else because prior to the dishwasher not draining at all, it was backfilling from the sink water too. When I would turn on faucet and then garbage disposal, sometimes the water would fill the dishwasher, I would open it and water would come out on floor. Recently had drains under sink cleaned, but the plumber wouldn't check anything with dishwasher said I needed appliance repairman. Thank you in advance!!

Hello Elaine, This sounds like you have removed the check valve 00165262 that allows for either drain or circulation. Without this valve in place, the pump will constantly try to both circulate and drain at the same time, preventing the normal operation in either mode. In case I am incorrect in this assumption and the drain pump is in fact the only issue, the pump 00642239 will have to be replaced with an additional connector 00623143 for the electrical connection. The wire4s are not polarized by the way, so placement of the wires in the connector can be either way. The pump will not know the difference and will operate normally either way.
