David January 17, 2020 for Model Number Kenmore 790.99123404 Range Hello. Many years ago I had to have the 3-section, right front element replaced. And this morning it seems to be acting strangely again. This time, it seems that the middle section is hesitant to heat up. If I more the tea kettle that was on it around into various positions and turned the whole element off/on and such, it did seem to light up at least for a while. But the intensity seemed somehow lower when it did light up. Any suggestions? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Jane. You will need to disconnect the power and remove the screws under the bottom front lip of the cooktop. Then lift the cook top to access the elements in the unit. Before removing the old element. Unplug the wires, one by one, and place them onto the new element in the same location. Remove the old element and install the new element into the unit. Read More...
Chris October 15, 2013 for Model Number 79099123405 The front 3 stage burner inner element will not turn off or adjust, only 100% on. I have turned the breaker off to let it cool and upon resetting the breaker, it immediately comes on again. I replaced the element a couple of years ago, but wondering the odds of it being the element or a control board? I assumed that even if the element was malfunctioning, it would be off if the control pad says it was off...right? We live rurally and the odds of getting a repairman out here soon is nil. But I need to get it fixed fast. Thank for your help.
1 Answer Chris, The more likely issue is a "stuck" or shorted relay on the surface control board 316272402 There is a constant 120 VAC power supply to all the burners (L1). L2 120 VAC power supply is routed through the relays on the control board. If the relay contact short or sticks closed, there is 240 VAC to the burner element and it will remain energized full power and won't cycle. Read More...
Bob December 18, 2012 for Model Number kenmore 790.99129409 I have a kenmore glasstop range with a non working element. The element has the inner, middle, and outer element all in one. The inner element has recently stopped working but the others still function. The model range I have is all electronic with touch buttons and no knobs. I can hear the clicking on/off when inner is selected. Just wondering if I just need to replace element? Thanks for your help.
1 Answer Hello Bob. Test for power from the switch to the element. If there is power there, and the element does not work, you will need to replace the element. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Tracy November 13, 2012 for Model Number Kenmore Elite 79099123408 The burner had 3 sizes, small, medium and large. The small, inner one does not work anymore. Do we need to replace the element?
1 Answer Tracy, There is a slight possibilty you may need the element 316216701, but theissue is more likely in the user interface 316271801 or the relay board 316272402 (on the back of the range). If you can get access to a multi meter, you can check for voltage to the small element at the relay board. If you select the small burner and you have voltage out of the relay, you'll need the element, if you don't have the voltage, you'll need to check the relay board for damage, and loose wiring. if no apparent issues are found, you'll need the user interface 316271801 (in the control panel) . Dwayne G March 31, 2012 for Model Number part number AP3563458 316216701 Model 790.9912 This burner element has 3 sizes small, med, and large. The small does not heat up but the other 2 sizes do. Do I need to replace the element? Or is there another answer?
1 Answer Dwayne, There is the possibility that the infinite switch for the small burner has failed. A complete model number would have been a great help, it appears you may have an electronic burner control board. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Persol December 26, 2011 for Model Number 79099122401 - Kenmore Elite Electric range The two front elements (largest on the right and round left-front elements) remain hot and can not control them to lower the temperature or turn them off. I had to disconnect the power to kill the power. Even after I kept it unplugged the unit still keeps hot at highest temperature. (1) What is wrong with it? (2) What should I replace (3) if a part is available, what should I do and how can I replace it with a newer part? (4) are there videos that would show me how to replace the parts you would suggest? Pleasxe help me.
1 Answer Persol, The cooktop elements are the least likely issue. You may have a shorted wire to either of the burners, but most likely would be a shoted surface unit control board 316272401 or the control panel/keypad assembly 5303935246 . Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Duke B. July 25, 2011 for Model Number 790.9912340a I need the right front burner element I guess as the inner burner does not work. Could there be another problem? The burner has 3 positions.
1 Answer Hello Duke, here is the part number for the right front burner 316216701. You could check to make sure the switch is sending power to the element when you have that selection on with a Mutli Meter: TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link to assist you with using a multi meter: http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html . Thanks! Read More...
