The Bake Element is an OEM component for Frigidaire wall ovens. It is an integrated heating coil that generates heat through electric resistance when powered. Located near the bottom of the oven cavity, the bake element facilitates heating for various cooking functions like baking, roasting, or warming. This element measures approximately 13 x 11 inches.

Symptoms of a bad bake element include:

  • Oven failing to reach or maintain desired cooking temperatures
  • Bake cycles taking excessively long periods of time
  • Hot or cold spots developing inside oven cavities
  • Error codes appearing related to upper heating issues

Causes can be cracks in ceramic sheathing allowing arcing, or mineral deposits coating coils over extended use impeding heat transfer.

This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

Peter, you will need to pull the oven out and remove it from the back. There will be a panel in front of the element that will have to be removed as well. part number is 318601604

William, I found no manufacturer data on removal of the element but the unit will need to be pulled and back cover removed to gain access. Remember to kill power to the unit before removal starts.

Ann, You will want to check the oven sensor which should read 1090 ohms at room temp. If the resistance checks ok then this would most likely be a faulty board with there being such inconsistency.

Mark for Model Number CGEF304DKF2

Client complained that upper oven was not heating properly. Found leads to upper bake element, measured proper voltage going to element. No current. Verified open circuit for element. Ordered new part (318601604)... How the hell do I access the old element to install the new one? I don't seem to see how to access from the back, even with back panel removed. There doesn't seem to be a removable floor panel in the upper oven cavity. Do I go in through the side?

Mark, The mini oven bake element is under the oven bottom panel you need to remove power to the range open/remove the mini oven door. You would need to lift from the back of the oven bottom liner in order to get the panel out. Lift up on the panel then slide it toward the back and then lift it out the opening.

John W. for Model Number 790.48143801 Kenmore elite 30" double wall oven

Lower oven heats to temp, but then slowly cools (even though the display indicates that the lower element is being used). I've replaced the circuit board and temp sensor. Only thing left is the hidden bake element. Am I correct that I must remove the oven from the cabinet? Is it possible to leave maybe 4" of it in the cabinet, support the front at the sides, and be able to drop the access panel and change out the element that way? Is there any need to access connections or cables behind the rear sheet metal cover of the oven? Anything else I may need to replace associated with changing our a bake element?

John, With the unit getting up to temperature would not indicate a bad bake element. This would be more likely the wiring between the control board and the sensor. Also if you replaced the display board then you would want to replace the relay board on the unit.

Hello Roger. You'll need to remove power to the unit and remove the oven from the wall in order to remove the rear panel and access the hidden bake element. There is a cover you remove to remove the element from there. You will see the wires going to the element. Thanks.
