Does the switch need replaced? If so will your switch 316436000 replace 316021501? Your switch looks different than mine. 1 Answer Hello Dennis, the original switch for the 8" element was 316021501 but was replaced with 316436001. Look for the markings on the switch. Make sure you have disconnected power or turned off the breaker before making this repair. There should be a wiring diagram on the back of the range. If not, the switch should have the terminals marked L1, L2, H1, H2, and P. Terminals L1 and L2 are the wires for the power coming to the switch. Laurel November 17, 2012 for Model Number FEF355ASF I need to replace the switch for the large left front burner on my stove. The part number on the original switch is 316021501 (type B). I purchased a replacement switch and it is labeled part# 316436001. The replacement switch is about a third larger than the original and the terminals are configured a little bit differently. Will the new part work on my stove? The model# of the stove is FEF355ASF and the serial# is VF32913265. Also, is there a wiring diagram that will show me how to hook up the new switch? 1 Answer Hello Laurel, looking at your model number, I show your left front burner to be a small element but if you have a large element, the switch for the large element is part# 316436001. The switch for the small element is part# 316436000. It's common for the manufacturer to change the switches over time so they make look different from your original switches. Holly May 14, 2012 for Model Number 790.9621340B The front left burner on the stove is not heating. Testing it with an Ohm meter shows that it is still getting some current through it (though not as much as the other elements), but it is not 'spiking' when the element is turned on. All the wires appear to be in good condition. Could this be a problem with the element or could it be an element switch?
1 Answer Hi Holly. Use a flash light and look down from the top of the glass top to see if any section of the dual element part # 316555800 has burnt open. It sounds like since you have some burner current that the infinite switch part # 316436001 has opened internally on the higher settings. You can use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Power removed, you can remove the wires to the infinite switch (after marking them for reconnection). Use the ohm meter on R x 1 at the back of the switch. One meter lead on L1, and the other lead on H1. Rotate the switch slowly on low, mid, and high settings. This should give some resistance on the dial as you rotate it. If at any time (other then the switch off position), it reads 0-ohms, this means the switch is bad.
