David D November 19, 2015 for Model Number GSL25JFPABS Initially the compressor would not come on. Replaced main control board. Compressor on and freezer side temp fine but refrigerator side too cold. The damper does open and close but remains open too long resulting temp too low in fresh food side. Checked all 3 thermistors @ 32 degrees and they are in specs 16.3 k ohms. Even setting temp control on 2 it is still 32 degrees. Is the board assembly encoder bad?
1 Answer David, You will want to make sure that you followed the instructions that came with the control board about clipping the wire on the J2 connector. If you did not do this will cause freezing in the refrigerator compartment. Read More...
Perry October 28, 2014 for Model Number GSS20iepaww I am at my wit's end. I have a GE side by side with ice and water in the door. Several weeks ago I noticed that the refrigerator side was warm, so I knew from prior experience to pull the defroster cover and see if it was iced up. It was, so I replaced the defroster heater, and everything seemed good for a while. Now, just the other day, I noticed that the refrigerator was getting warm again, so I defrosted it again, and on advice found here and from my repairman, I replaced the motherboard. It almost immediately iced up again. I then took the damper door cover off, and noticed that it never moved, so I ordered a new damper door assembly, and installed it. It still appears to never open or close on its own! The weird thing is, if I disconnect the damper door connection, and gently open it, the freezer temperature goes down, and the refrigerator goes down to the point of freezing, like 24 degrees F. Do I need to replace the encoder control, try another mother board $$$$, or just giver up???!!!!
1 Answer Hello Perry. You need to use the instruction sheet and see if the number 2 wire needs to be cut on your model. Read More...
Buddy August 28, 2014 for Model Number PSC23NSTE Hi, My GE side-side had a glitch a few days ago. This unit has, per manual, ClimateKeeper2, two evaporators. I opened the refrigerator side that morning and felt warm/hot air blowing. The freezer side was working, cold, showing 0 deg on LED light. I turned off the unit for 1 hr and pluged it back in. Cold air coming in both sides but unit would not shut down when temp reached. Condenser fan working, no noise coming from fridge. Freezer always shows 0 deg no matter what, (LED light). but the refrigerator side show accurate temp on LED. HELP
1 Answer Buddy, You will want to check to see if the fan in the refrigerator is working. This can be done by pushing in on the light switch. If the fan is working then you should hear a small noise coming from the back wall or feel air coming from the vent. If this checks ok, with the issue of the heat blowing in the refrigerator before restarting it, would sound like a faulty main control board. Read More...
1 Answer Hello TI. You will need to check the heater, thermostat, and the timer on the unit. Any of the 3 parts can cause the problem you are having with the unit. Also, if your model uses a defrost thermistor, you will need to check it as well. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
1 Answer Hello Tony. Sorry, the manufacturer does not offer the instructions on testing this part. If we knew the issue you had and your model number, we may be able to help you find the problem with the unit. Thanks. Read More...
Drago April 16, 2014 for Model Number GSS22WGMDBB Ice build up in freezer, freezes food at the bottom of fridge about 6-10 days after each repair. Replaced: defrost thermostat, thermistor, freezer fan, damper, main control board. Still freezes food. What could it be?
1 Answer Drago, You've covered everything except the defrost heater and thermostat WR51X10101 WR51X10101, or did you forget to mention those. You may have a loose connection in the wiring, or a weak spot in the heater element that opens when trying to carry the voltage and heat. Read More...
Joeseph March 13, 2014 for Model Number GSS20IEPAWW My refrigerator quit working. The lights come on, but nothing else. In the past it has always been the defrost heater. I have replaced it twice over the past 7-8 years. This time, however, it appears to be good. The compressor does not come on, nor do the fans. Like I said, nothing is running, just the lights, so I know I am getting power. Please help!!!
1 Answer Hello Joeseph. If the unit has power, but does not come on, you will need to replace the main control board WR55X10942C in the unit. Read More...
Stuart February 19, 2014 for Model Number GE model GSS25ifpaww Food section is constantly too cold, 27 degrees in crisper, and freezes everything, including the water loop. Tried setting the controls to mid range (5), then as low as 1 on the food side (right control) and absolutely no change in temp at any setting. Airflow is not blocked, fridge and freezer are only about 1/3 full. I can feel air flowing out the bottom vent in the food side. Freezer is fine at zero on setting 5. Time for a new encoder board or something else? Thanks!
1 Answer Hello Stuart. You need to check and see if the damper WR09X10050 is bad and needs to be replaced on the unit. Read More...
David September 13, 2013 for Model Number GSS20IEMDWW I think the encoder control board may be bad in my refrigerator. The main board, defrost thermostat and sensor have been replaced but the refrigerator will still not get cold. The evaporator fan will run when the freezer requires it but it will not come on nor will the damper open to cool the refrigerator. How can I test the control Thermostat for the refrigerator or is there another problem.
1 Answer David, You will want to make sure that you followed the instructions on the main board about cutting the jumper wire on the J2 connector. If you did not do this then it will cause the refrigerator section to not operate properly. Read More...
Jay September 08, 2013 for Model Number GSS25UFMD WW Both sides of my fridge aren't able to get down to temp. Mid 60's in the fridge and mid 40's in the freezer. Over time the freezer does build up ice on the back wall. You can hear the compressor and fan kick on but it just won't cool down properly. looking for suggestions. Thanks,
1 Answer Hello Jay. It sounds like ther coils are restricted or it is low on freon. You will need an HVAC tech to repair the sealed system issue. Read More...
