The Configured Machine Control Board is an OEM part for GE dishwashers. As the central brain of the dishwasher, it controls all operation cycles and safety features.

Problems with a control board can manifest in symptoms like improper cycles, unusual noises, or failure to operate properly. Over time, normal use combined with fluctuating temperatures can accelerate component deterioration inside the board.

Symptoms include:

About 5% of the time the dishwasher runs normally, but never sets the clean light. About 50% of the time it runs, less than ten minutes into the cycle it stops and goes dark like it’s lost power, there is water in the sump. Soap doesn’t open. The rest of the time it will run for some part of the cycle and stop. When it does this I hear the drain pump making strange sounds, sometimes the sump has water, sometimes doesn’t. When it runs fine the pump sounds fine. If I kill power to the unit overnight it will run just fine absolutely no symptoms, it runs normally, for at least one cycle. In all cases the clean light is never on.

Mark, Thank you for your question. You will want to access the main control board at the bottom of the unit. Using the tech sheet, there is a light on the board that will flash a certain sequence. The tech sheet will tell you what the light flashing represents.

Hello Kim, thank you for contacting APP, This appears to be a model with the display on the User Interface WD21X25371, when the failure occurs verify whether or not the unit is showing any fault codes. If so this may help in diagnosing the issue. If the unit is not giving a fault code and is just running the drain pump at the start of the cycle and then shutting off or showing the cycle as ended, or filling then draining out, it is possible the issue is with the Main Control WD21X27998. If the unit is giving any of the following errors, but the valve and other components are working in diagnostics, there may be an issue with the Pressure Sensor WD21X25468 or the Main Control: No Water Detected- W/ Display H20 W/O Display unit will have the Wash Temp LED blinking Pressure Sensor Errors- W/ Display PrS or PrF W/O Display unit will have the Dry LED or Wash Temp and Dry LEDs blinking Continuous Fill Error: W/ Display CFE W/O Display unit will have the Cycle Indication LEDs blinking.

Our dishes were not drying very well, so I reviewed the common causes and determined nothing was wrong with our vent, so I when ahead and ordered the heater element.   I only saw a TCO thermostat on the wiring harness which I did replace as well. After I replaced the parts when I run the dishwasher at best the water is lukewarm, and never gets steamy even when I open it mid-range or late in the cycle. So I'm not sure if one of the parts was defective, if so, what multi meter reading should I see or is something on the control board bad? Any other possibilities?

Victoria, Start by checking the incoming water to insure that it is 120°f or above. The tech sheet packaged with the machine should give you the resistance data needed to check the heater.

Virginia, if the machine control WD21X27998 does not send 13.5VDC to the user interface, the machine control would need to be replaced. However, if it is sending voltage, the most common failure is a broken wire in the door harness WD21X25474.

Jason, the heater circuit would need to be tested for resistance using the wires at connection J704. The resistance of the circuit should be between 14 to 18 Ohms when the heater is not hot. If the circuit is good, the failure would likely be in the machine control WD21X27998.

Mike, the main control WD21X27998 would need to be accessed to identify if there is a blinking light. If there is, the heating element would need to be tested for resistance between 14 to 18 Ohms when dry or wet respectively. If there was not a blinking light, the error mode would need to be entered by pressing and holding the farthest left button and the start button at the same time for 5 seconds. If any LEDs illuminate, this can indicate an error code.

Dishwasher dead no panel etc. Did the same thing in 2019 but was under warranty. Service tech replaced main control board. What i have done . Checked for water leaks none noted. Checked board light flashing several times. Ran current sense mode test no errors. Ran the service mode test no problems. Dishwasher completed one load then shutdown again. Main control board again?? Where do you go from here? Also talks about an update ? What is needed for this update? Dishwasher s/n ZM791212b Thanks Jim

Jim, This issue would most likely be caused by a User Interface if the interface is getting the proper voltage. If there is no power then the issue will be the main control board.
