V. Voss March 21, 2013 for Model Number DRSR495GG4WW I have a GE dryer -- the knob just turns, feels loose and does not click to select a drying cycle. Therefore when I push the start button, the dryer does not start. The inside of the knob itself does appear to be cracked. Can I just replace the knob or do I need to replace the entire timer/switch mechanism? If you believe either is the problem, can you provide me with part numbers for both? Many thanks!

1 Answer Hello Mike, The timer WE04X20416 is designed to operate properly with the knob provided without any modification. If the knobs are cracking, the timer will have to be replaced because if you lubricate it with wet or dry lubricant, it will corrupt the contacts in the timer and it will never operate properly until the timer is replaced anyway. Mct January 30, 2012 for Model Number DBSR463EG1WW The shaft of the dryer timer knob is cracked and will not turn the timer stem. I attempted to turn the stem using pliers however it will not turn. I experienced this problem twice this past year and a new timer knob was the solution however this time a new knob still does not turn the timer stem. Do I need a complete timer assembly or could there be another problem?

Scott January 25, 2012 for Model Number GE PFSR465EH5WW ser # AS726969 I replaced the timer knob on dryer, as old one was cracked... new one just spins on the shaft... shaft looks like the corners of the "D" shape it is supposed to be are worn off, and hence the new knob just spins on shaft without turning it... now what? can you replace the shaft?
1 Answer Scott, Check and see if there was a metal insert in the shaft of the knob, or if it stuck on the timer shaft, when you pulled off the knob. The response is incorrect at least for some GE dryers including mine. The correct dryer knobs (all the same) for my GE dryer are the p/n [APPros p/n AP2044504, GE p/n WH01X10060]that I cited in my original post. I ordered THIS knob and have installed it on my dryer [m/n DBSR453EB3WW]. It fits and it MATCHES the original knobs. It is also the knob referenced on the GE parts website for this dryer. The knobs referenced by APPros do not match and may not fit.
