This ice maker makes ice - but every week or so we hear a "low groaning" or "low frequency vibration" sound. When I raise the 'fill bar' which turns off the ice maker, the noise stops. It is intermittent too, since I left it 'off' for a couple days, then put the fill bar in the down position to allow more ice making, and its worked fine, without the 'groaning' noise for past several days. Is there any way to tell if I should replace the ice maker, and/or, the water valve (on rear of the frig)? thanks!
1 Answer Hello Jim, The icemaker may be making the groaning noise while trying to eject the ice from the mold. This could be caused by a heater that is not working, a freezer that is causing ice to get too cold or a heater that is not working properly on the icemaker. Jay January 14, 2013 for Model Number PSS26NGPA Several months ago I noticed that water had been overflowing and freezing on the outside of the ice maker (where the cubes are made). So I turned it off and had been using store bought ice. Recently I thought I'd try again and so turned on the ice maker again. It seemed to work for about 24 hours. But then I just noticed the same thing with water appearing to have overflowed onto the outside of the ice maker. I also looked at the cubes in the bin and noticed that they were hollow on the inside, as if they had not completely frozen before being kicked out into the bin. Does this sound like the ice maker needs to be replaced or something different?

Bill R January 05, 2013 for Model Number GSL25JGCLS We have been having this fridge serviced for the same problem for months, and still no ice. Ice maker fills and freezes the cubes but it does not harvest (drop/expel/empty) the ice from the icemaker. The tech has replaced the ice maker (part #WRX10093 01) four times already. Never helped, problem persists. Any other solution other than having him come out to replace the icemaker a 5th time ?
1 Answer Hello Bill, It sounds like it may be a communication issue between icemaker and control board. If the icemaker never cycles unless you force into a cycle it would more than likely be a bad board not reading the thermostat on the icemaker properly. James January 03, 2013 for Model Number TFX22CRDAWW I bought this icemaker, however I notices that the fill cup has a hole on the side (for the fill tube), but when mounted, the icemaker mounts to the side and the fill cup faces the rear. Therefore the fill cup hole is exposed and I'm concerned with the water pressure that perhaps its coming out from the fill cup. The fill cup from the old icemaker doesn't fit this one. None of the instructions really match, but it will only go in one way.....

But now the ice maker is acting strangely, namely it can Not stop making ice even we push the feeler arm up to the "stop" position. So we keep get ice made overflow in the box. My roommate used to unplug the water supply so no ice to make. Now I plug the supply back and then use some rapport to push up and hold the feeler arm up there all the way to its "stop" position. It does stop ice making. So sounds like something loosed up there, like the spring for the feeler arm? I can't always keep a rapport there and hence need to fix this issue. Anyone knows if there's an easy fix? thanks.

1 Answer Hello Andy, The first thing you should try is to remove the ice bin and see if you can turn the auger motor by hand. If you can't, the motor is frozen from condensate water, (frost), and will need to be thawed out. I usually do this by putting a hair dryer on high pointed toward the auger motor for 10 to 15 minutes. Once it is thawed out, you will need to check the ice door and the door seal for air leaks. Check the ice door by shining a flashlight in through the front and looking in from the inside of the door. If you see light, the ice door has an air leak and will require attention. If not, check the door seal with a flashlight and a small mirror so you can see the seal contacting the cabinet all the way around both doors. If you find no problems with either check, the temperature needs to be set warmer in the freezer and check to insure the water supply for the ice maker is cold and not connected to the hot water from the house.
