The Drain Pump is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It is responsible for removing water from the washer's tub at the end of each wash cycle, ensuring that your laundry is properly drained before the spin cycle. This pump helps to prevent water from sitting in the tub, which can lead to mold and mildew.

Symptoms of a bad Drain Pump include:

  • Water not draining out of the washer, leading to stagnant water pooling in the tub.
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, indicating a struggle or failure to operate.
  • The washing machine stopping abruptly before or during the drain phase.

Causes of a bad drain pump can include blockages from small garments or debris, mechanical failure from wear and tear, or electrical issues that affect the pump's power supply.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Shane. There is no check valve listed for this model. If the water is coming back into the tub, the drain hose is to far into the stand pipe causing siphoning.

Jeff, You're probably on target, the motor windings could be getting hot and the motor will "stall" and not drain the tub. But it's more likely the impeller is loose on the motor shaft and won't drain the tub when "under a load". Replace the pump and all should be fine.

Herman, You will want to check the unit's drain pump to make sure that the impeller is good and check to make sure that there are no clogs in the system.

Ryan for Model Number E waching machine

We have a ge washing machine. I cant find what model it is. It seems like it drains and soins fine but at the end of the spin cycle water immediately flows up from the bottom and the clothes come out dripping wet. I check the hose for cloggs and it seemed fine. Im trying to get the spin tub To see if anything is jammed underneath it having a hard time with the nut. Just wondering if the pump isnt getting all the water out or if its something else. The hose drains into the wash basin and is about three feet above the ground. I read its supposed to be between 39 and 96 inches. Thanks for the help

Ryan, Yes the washbasin height could be an issue in which water is back flowing into the unit. You will want to check the drain pump to ensure that there is no damage to the impeller and there should be a flap on the drain pump, possibly, that may have fallen off that could cause this issue.

Hello Jim. You will need to replace the control on the washer if the wiring harness is good.
