The Oven Igniter is an OEM replacement part for GE ovens, designed to ignite the bake igniter to start the heating process. This part is responsible for creating the spark that ignites the gas, providing the heat needed to cook and bake food. Over time, the oven igniter can wear out or become damaged, which can prevent the oven from heating.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven not heating up at all.
  • The oven taking longer than normal to heat.
  • Gas smell in the oven due to gas being released without ignition.
  • A clicking sound without the oven igniting.

Causes of a bad igniter can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to excessive heat or moisture, or physical damage from impact or mishandling.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

IMPORTANT: The connector plug may need to be cut off and igniter wires connected to range wires using porcelain wire connectors.

Christopher for Model Number rgb530deh3ww

Hoptpoint range question. The igniter would glow but not ignite. I felt around for the igniter, might have dislodged a blockage, maybe not. But, tried it again and it lit up. seemed to take 3-5 minutes for blue flames across the burner. How many minutes should it take to light up? Will the ignighter fail intermittently, or when it goes, that's it. The replacement how to vid looks simple enough and good on you for the presentation. Testing it and timing for blue flames, 3-5 minutes. Is that normal?

Hello Christopher, thank you for contacting APP, This sounds like an oven valve WB21X38548 issue or the igniter WB13K21. When the unit does ignite it should take about 30-60 seconds to achieve full ignition. Usually, when you have slow ignition or poor flame performance on these it is the igniter dragging on the system and not allowing proper current flow for the valve to supply gas the way it should.

Hello Rich, thank you for contacting APP, This will be an issue with either the Igniter Glowbar WB13X25261 or the Control Valve Assembly WB19K10043. You may try reading the resistance of the valve at room temperature which should be about 1 to 1.2Os resistance. Our system shows both the Igniter Glowbar WB13X25261 / AP5986241 and the Oven Igniter WB13K21 / AP2020569 for this unit listed as # 218 on the parts diagram. WB13X25261 is the Bake Igniter and WB13K21 is the Broil Igniter.

Barry, Even if the igniter is a different style, it will be the same as the video in regards to replacing the igniter. To be able to properly answer the question, we would need to have the model number of your range.

Delia, In most cases, with both the bake and broil not working, this would be a control board that is faulty.

1 Answer

David, Check for broken wiring and loose connections then if none the likely issue would be the board.
