The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It is an electronic sensor located inside the dishwasher door that detects when the door is securely closed.

Symptoms of a bad Interlock Switch include:

  • The dishwasher will not start a cycle even with the door closed
  • Error messages related to the door being open displayed
  • Failure to advance through cycle selections
  • Inconsistent or unreliable door closure sensing

Causes can be normal wear and tear over extended use. Moisture exposure inside the dishwasher environment may also contribute to switch malfunction over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with some Hotpoint, RCA and Kenmore branded dishwashers.

For Ge Interlock Switch (Part Number: OEM11618856)

Kevin for Model Number GE Dishwaher GLD5604V00WW

My wife stopped the dishwasher before it finished it's cycle. She also turn off a water valve that supplied water to this and a filter for an ice maker. Well she realized she had stopped before the cycle finished . She tried to start it again but the lights on two buttons start/reset and heat cycle just blinked along with a beep every 30 seconds or so. I tried some button combinations I found on the net, but it continued. So I shut the breaker off for 10 minutes no help. I left it the breaker off over night, again the same. So what I did then was when I reset it before the lights could blink I turned off the breaker on and off pretty fast a number of times. Now no blinking , still didn't work but it stopped blinking. But it still beeps every 30 seconds? Suggestions?

Kevin, Based on the information it sounds like this would be caused by a faulty control board on the unit causing the unit to not operate.

Brandon, It's not likely to be the door switches or thermal fuse. You have voltage into the control board, or the lights wouldn't illuminate at all. You most likely have a failed key pad assembly or damaged ribbon, so when you press a key there's no data transmitted to the control board and the dishwasher won't program or start.

My dishwasher will just stop about mid cycle and beep. It just continues to beep every 30 seconds or so. All the lights stay on solid, not flashing. I can open and shut the door and it still won't start back up. I use to be able to just push on the door, by the handle area, and the washer would start back up. It is not doing that anymore. My husband tore it apart and said there is a spring in there that he thinks is warped or damaged and not allowing the washer to know the door is shut. What could this be?

1 Answer

Mindy, Based on the description, with the lights all being on steady but the unit not running, it sounds like the issue would caused by either bad door switches or a control board failure. You can check the switches by doing a continuity test on them. If they check ok then the issue is most likely the control board.

Hi. FLASHING DISPLAY LIGHTS :Status Indicator Lights What It Means...START/RESET Cycle has been interrupted by pressing the START/RESET START/RESET keypad. Light will quit ?ashing after keypad. Light will quit ?ashing after the dishwasher automatically drains out the water. Remove the drain hose at the sink connection. Use a screwdriver to see if it is clogged. Remove the drain hose at the pump and clear the hose. Also make sure the drain hose is clamped as far up under the sink using a loop and then taught to the sink connection. Make sure the drain pump part # WD26X22719 impeller is not spinning loose on the pump shaft. Thank You.
