The Door Interlock Switch is an OEM part for GE microwaves. It ensures the safety of the microwave by preventing the appliance from operating while the door is open. This switch is part of a microwave's safety mechanism, which includes multiple interlock systems designed to stop the generation of microwaves immediately once the door is opened, thereby protecting users from exposure to microwave radiation.

Signs that it's time to replace your door interlock switch include the microwave not starting or stopping unexpectedly, the microwave continuing to operate with the door open, or a failure to heat food even though the appliance seems to be running.

Symptoms of a bad Door Interlock Switch include:

  • Microwave does not start
  • Microwave stops unexpectedly
  • The microwave operates with the door open
  • Microwave turns on but does not heat food

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Cal, the latches that keep the control panel in place can be tight. If all the screws holding the panel in place are removed, and the door is open, the panel should come up and out. The only thing that could potentially hold it from lifting is the door lift that is attached to the panel. The easiest way to check if it is holding the panel from lifting up is to remove the outer shell of the microwave itself.

Hello Concepcion! First off you'll want to be very careful when dealing with a high voltage unit like this. You'll need a multimeter to test your door switches, middle one WB24X25397 should be open when the door is closed and the other two WB24X10047 will be closed. If your meter has a diode test you could test the diode WB27X35382 and the magnetron WB26X32629 for an ohm value (look for a value less than one ohm.) Hope this helps!

Ray, If you remove the air grill at the top of the unit, behind it will be a screw that you will remove to take the control panel off.

Jose, With the unit starting even without setting the time for cooking, this would be a control board issue. The relay for the cooking would be in the control and the control would need to be replaced.

Hello Joe, You will need to replace all three door switches since they cause the complaint listed and if one has failed, the other two will fail soon and replacing them now saves the trouble of doing the job again.

Hello Ernest. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron.
