The Control Panel is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool built-in dishwashers. It is the control panel located on the front façade, comprising buttons to select cycles and indicator lights showing progress. This interface allows for efficient operation through simple input of wash selections.

Causes of a failing control panel involve damage to electronic components from moisture exposure over time. Wiring degradation or faulty circuit boards can also disrupt intended functions.

Symptoms of an inadequate control panel include:

  • Unresponsive buttons that do not initiate cycles
  • Light indicators that do not illuminate properly
  • Erratic or unexpected dishwasher behavior

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ed, There really isn't a way to bring back the lettering. You would just have to purchase the console itself and it comes with the badging already there. The part number would depend on the color of your unit.

Hello Michael. 1. Remove the six (6) screws securing the control panel to the door frame. 2. The control panel will now drop down and be free of the door assembly. The wiring harness will remain connected to the console components. 1. Disconnect the ribbon connector and the wiring harness connectors from the electronic control board. 2. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to depress the holding tabs at the left end of the control board assembly while pulling up. SPLIT CONTROL MODELS 3. Once the Electronic Control Board is removed, a ribbon cable interconnect board is exposed. 4. Unsnap the interconnect board from the control panel assembly W10775980. 5. Disconnect the three ribbon cables from the interconnect board.

Robin, You will want to check the door latch assembly to make sure that the door switches are good. If this checks ok then the most likely cause for the failure would be the control board.

Marty for Model Number KUDS01FLBL6

I was given this dishwasher that had been in use for an unknown period of time. Looks to be in very good shape. It sat for probably six months or more before it was installed and use was attempted. On its first use, I thought the buttons acted a bit funny but I was totally unfamiliar with how it should work so I thought it might have been normal (and it may have been...just don't know). It went through the first part of its cycle just fine. Then it drained and at some point during or very shortly after it started draining, smoke began to come from the right side of the door at the top where the control buttons are. Opened the door to get it to shut off and it kept running. Had to kill at breaker. Took door off and there is evidence of abnormal heat and damage on the circuit board and I know it would have to be replaced. There is nasty smelly soot on the part that has the buttons on it but I am unsure if it has malfunctioned or is itself damaged. There is some evidence that a few of the wires themselves got abnormally hot a few inches below the circuit board as they appear to have melted into the rubbery coating on the door slightly, but the wires appear undamaged. I know I need the new circuit board but I don't want to throw good money after bad here and put a new board on it just to have what caused the first problem to burn out the new one as well due to the significant cost. My questions are, do I need to replace something besides the circuit board and am I taking a chance on the new board burning out the first time I turn it on as well?

1 Answer

Marty, It could be that there was just a circuit issue inside the control board that caused this situation to occur. While we cannot say for sure that there is another issue it would be more likely not. If you have the tech sheet you can test the control panel keys to make sure that they are good. If they check ok then it would likely just need the control board.
