The Ice Maker Assembly is an OEM replacement part for LG refrigerators. It automatically produces and dispenses batches of ice through the ice bucket and into the storage bin. Proper ice production is crucial for cold beverages and food preservation.

Causes of a bad ice maker assembly can be failures in the electronic control board, freezing components or water supply system. Regular filter changes help prevent excess mineral buildup.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker assembly include:

  • No ice production or inconsistent amounts
  • Ice cubes that are malformed, fused together or absorbed cold liquid
  • Leaking or flooding from the ice maker area
  • Error codes shown on the refrigerator display

This genuine LG OEM replacement part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Curt, there could be a different issue going on that could cause this failure. The first thing that would need to be identified is the actual temperature in the ice container section. If the temperature is not maintained at 1°F or less, the ice maker fan in the freezer section would need to be inspected for any ice build-up. If it is being maintained, the button in the pinhole of the ice maker motor would need to be pressed using a small tool to place it into a test mode. This will allow the ice maker to be observed to see if it operates properly. It should rotate the rake arms to dump the ice and then fill with water for 9 to 12 seconds.

Curt, as the auger motor and chute are working properly, replacing just the ice maker AEQ73130004 for your model would be a good way to go. Replacing the entire assembly ACZ73990802 at this point would only be for ease of replacement.

Dave, it takes this long for the ice maker to produce ice due to it having to get cold enough for it to cycle, freeze the water that it calls for, then go into a second cycle. The time for the ice maker to get to cycle temperature when it is first installed is what takes the longest.

Les, if the water valve AJU34125555 is new and the filter is good, the next step would be to verify that the incoming water pressure is within 40 to 90 PSI. The optimal pressure is between 60 to 80 PSI. If the water pressure is less than 40 or greater than 90, it can cause the water valve to not be able to open and close properly. Another thing to check for would be inspecting the tubing for pinholes that may be breaking the vacuum.

Steve, This issue would most likely be caused by a water valve that may not be fully seating causing a seepage.

Bill, Unfortunately, we do not have wiring information on this unit to be able to determine the correct ice motor connection points to test for voltage. The sensing arm will only move when the unit goes into a harvest mode. There should be a test button on the side of the icemaker.

Dave, unfortunately, the ice maker assembly AEQ73130002 does not come with instructions. With the power cord unplugged, the ice bin, and top cover removed, there will be three screws that will need to be removed from the ice maker and auger panel. Once these screws are removed, the assembly can be pulled forward and the wire connectors removed. The ice maker mounting screws can be removed and the ice maker replaced.
