The Washer Door Lock Switch is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This critical safety feature locks the washer door during operation to prevent it from being opened, which ensures safety and proper functioning. The door lock switch also communicates with the washer's control system to indicate that the door is securely closed and the machine can begin its cycle.

Symptoms of a bad Washer Door Lock Switch include:

  • The washing machine refusing to start, despite the door appearing to be closed.
  • The door failing to lock properly, or the lock releasing prematurely during a cycle.
  • Error messages on the washer's display related to door closure issues.

Causes of a bad door lock switch can include mechanical failures such as worn or damaged locking mechanisms, electrical issues like faulty wiring or failed solenoids, or alignment problems that prevent the door from engaging the switch properly.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Hello Rick, since you have already replaced the latch assembly, check for any problems with the latch hook in the door, then check the wiring from the latch backward for any loose connections before replacing the control board.

Taylor, Trace your lead wire back to the control and make sure there is a good connection at the control. You can also check the wire from the lid lock to the control for continuity. If that tests good then the control would need to be replaced.

Joseph, you will want to ensure that the wiring connections are securely in place on the lock as well as the control. As this is a new lock, if the wire connections check good then the most likely issue would be the control not operating properly.

Washer code LE. I have had trouble with the door lock for a long time (including throwing the code) but always worked after an extra nudge. Was giving me a lot of trouble locking this past week.Washer threw code LE and water still fills and pumps thru the top. Unplugged the washer for about half a minute and still same problem. This washer has a spray from the top between tumbles and it is working. The washer will not tumble. I'm no repairman but I often fix my own appliances with help from videos. I took the back off and looked at those copper coils and they were amazingly new looking. I read that the door lock switch can cause the washer not to tumble or spin. I also checked the drain, it's clean. I know this washer is getting very old and the switch needs to be replaced anyway. Can you offer any suggestions?

Hello Judith, The most likely cause of this fault code is a failed rotor position sensor (RPS) 6501KW2002B. In some cases, there could be an issue with the harness to this sensor from the control or even an issue with the control 6871ER1023R.

Kim, This would most likely be caused by the door lock assembly or the door strike being damaged. Also check the wiring to the door lock assembly as it could be a loose or damaged connection.

Hi, my LG Tromms door won’t lock, I have replaced the door lock twice now in hopes that the one I bought was faulty, but not the case, the hinges are perfectly fine and the boot is also clean with no tears and is sealing good, when I press to start the washer I hear double click in the back of the washer but the lock in the front never makes a sound or even moves, how do I check to c what the problem could be? I checked the wires going to door lock and I get constant power to one of the wires, I believe the yellow one maybe, but is there something else I should check? Or what could be the problem, need to get this fixed so I can wash some clothes! Thanks!

Skyler, With hearing the clicking in the back of the unit but door not locking then this will be a issue with the main control board since the wiring checked ok.

Dave, With the door lock being new, you will want to check the wiring between the main control board and door lock assembly. If this checks ok then this will most likely be a faulty main control board.

Dan, You will want to test for power getting to the drain pump. If the drain pump is getting power to it then you will want to check for clogs in the drain system and then if the system is clear then this will be a faulty drain pump.

I ordered a part online (not from you guys which may be my issue) and installed it. I was getting a DE code and washer will not lock. I put new part in and still get DE code. I can hear latch clicking but it still will not lock. Is there a possibility that the new part is faulty? Is there a way to check? If my control board was bad I wouldn't be getting the signal to make it click would I? Also, if I hold the door open should I see the latch move when it is trying to engage? I hear the clicking but can 't see any movement. Thank you.

1 Answer

Matthew, While it is possible that the door lock that you received is faulty you will also want to check to make sure that there is no damage to the door strike on the unit. The door lock is the most likely cause for this issue of not locking.

Randy, This issue sounds more likely that it would be a faulty water valve on the unit.
