Willie, the drain tube DA97-04049D is used to prevent the humidity and air from outside of the refrigerator to be able to get into where the evaporator is. The drain tube can clog if dust accumulates in the compressor section.

Guadalupe, The water valve would not cause ice build-up under the freezer drawer. This would be caused by a clogged drain. You will need to remove the rear cover in the freezer compartment and clean out the drain, flush it with hot water. Once you have done this you will then pull the unit out and clean the drain tube in the back as there is something that would have gotten in there and clogged the tube.

Ken L. for Model Number RF268ABRS/XAA-0000

I have ice building up under the freezer drawer. A few weeks ago I removed all the ice. I opened up the back and found that the 2 drain valves were dirty and clogged. I cleaned them out plus I vacuumed out the dust from the coils nearby so that dirt wouldn't build up in the tubes. Well, the same problem came back. I have lots of ice under the freezer drawer. This time the drain tubes did not appear to be clogged. For now, I cut a larger slot in the bottom of the rubber drain valve so that the water would flow better. Will this fix the problem or is there some other cause for the ice build-up under the freezer drawer?

1 Answer

Hello Ken, You should clear all of the ice, move the evaporator thermistor from the line it is on to the other Freon line at the top of the evaporator, install a defrost heater 819043, and replace the evaporator cover assembly DA97-06197S. This will normally correct the issue permanently.

Jack, The water collecting under the tray would be caused by a clogged drain line. With the compressor getting extremely hot and shutting down and not restarting but the fans are running then this issue would most likely be caused by a sealed system issue where there is a restriction somewhere. Would want to have a service tech to check the unit.

Gerald, If you take the shelving out of the refrigerator compartment and remove the rear wall, the drain will be behind the wall. You can install a heater probe DA61-14306A to help keep this drain from freezing.
