Joe D. You will want to check the oven sensor on the unit to ensure that there is 1090 ohms of resistance. If there is not then the oven sensor is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Deb for Model Number Whirlpool gas range -- SF365PEGWO

A couple of years ago I asked for help and was told my control panel needed to be replaced. I replaced it and the oven has been working beautifully until recently. Now even though it says it's on and heating it's not igniting. It started with not igniting until the countdown reached 8 minutes or so and the other day there was a minute left and it hadn't ignited. The pilot light is lit as I can see a flame. My Question is ---- is the igniter bad or does it need cleaning? How do you go about cleaning it? and is changing it something I can do myself? Thanks for you time. Deb

1 Answer

Deb, You are most likely seeing the igniter glowing, you don't have a pilot light on your range. The igniter WP3186491 has to glow "white" hot and produce a 3.2 to 3.6 amp draw on the ignition system, in order to open the safety valve and allow the bake burner to ignite. A weak igniter can glow (orange in color) but not produce the amperage. There is no need to "clean" igniter, there is no process for that. If you have some basic tools and some basic skills you should be able to replace the igniter yourself. Remove power to the range, remove the oven door, and racks, remove the oven bottom panel(floor) then remove the flame spreader from the burner. Remove the two mounting screws, disconnect the wires from the cabinet harness and reverse the procedure, and test the oven for ignition and heat.

Deb, With the unit just blacking out and coming on with a PF failure, you will first want to check the incoming power to the unit to make sure that you are not dropping one leg of the power supply. If this checks ok then the control board would be the issue with the unit.

Terry, Yes, at room temperature the sensor resistance should be 1050-1100 ohms. At 1952 ohms, the control "thinks" the oven temperature is 500 dgrs.F. replace the sensor WP8053344.

Terry, Yes it could be a faulty oven temp. sensor WP8053344, especially if the started to occur after a self clean cycle, but your range doesn't have that option. So, the more likely issue is a weak or intermittent oven igniter 4342528 these account for 95% of heating issues in gas ranges.

Mike, No, we wouldn't expect the oven temperature sensor WP8053344 to be the issue. You would most likely have an error code in the display if that were the case. Since the GFI outlet tripped, and you can see the igniter 4342528 glowing, you most likely have a weak igniter or possibly a loose or broken wire between the igniter and safety valve 3196545 .

Hello Mike. 1. Press CANCEL>CANCEL>START to enter the Diagnostics Mode. Verify the sensor temperature reading is at room temperature (typically 50 to 90°F [10 to 32.2°C]) and verify failure code. If failure code does match, then continue. 2. Unplug range or disconnect power. 3. Check all sensor connections on harness and board. 4. Disconnect sensor from harness. 5. Measure sensor resistance between connector pins and confirm reading is between 1000O and 1200O at room temperature. Also measure from sensor connector to sensor casing for possible short. If measurement is not correct, or if short is found, replace sensor. 6. Trace wires and connectors to sensor from control, then back to control. If wire or connection is damaged, replace the harness. If wire or connector is not damaged, replace oven temperature sensor. 7. Reconnect the sensor to the harness. 8. Replace all parts and panels before operating. 9. Plug in range or reconnect power. 10. Press CANCEL>CANCEL>START to enter the Diagnostics Mode and clear the error code. 11. Press CANCEL to cancel the Diagnostics Mode. 12. Press BAKE and START. Observe for longer than 1 minute. 13. If failure does not reappear, stop. If failure remains, unplug range or disconnect power and check wire connections.
