Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Shift Actuator (Part Number: OEM18044142)

1 Answer

E sokol, You may want to check and make sure the shift actuator linkage is proper seated and attached to the actuator lever for the "splutch" assembly. Then check to make sure the drain pump isn't clogged or restricted and not allowing the tub to drain and making the noise. The washer has to drain, in order to spin. You may also want to conduct the control board manual test mode and review the error codes again.

Ashley, You will want to put the unit into diagnostics to see if there are any stored error codes. If there are this will guide you to what may be going on with the unit.

Hello J.R., You will need to pull the fault codes from the control to determine where to check for the issue. If you look on the inside of the front panel near the top of the machine you will find the tech sheet which explains this procedure.

Melissa, The shift actuator seems to be the "weak link" in the system, and can produce several "false" codes and can cause the machine to malfunction and/or stop during the cycle. The second thing to check, is the wire harness between the shift actuator and the main control board in the control panel/console. But, the best thing to do is raise the top panel, or raise the front of the washer and retrieve the tech data sheet in the bag, taped to the inside of the front panel. Then you can program the control, and review the flashing light patterns/diagnostic codes, and operate all the washer components and determine where the issue is and repair the washer quickly and properly. You may want to recheck the actuator and the actuator linkage to make sure the linkage remained attached and didn't slip out after you put the machine back together.

Sherri Hall for Model Number WTW4950XW2

Hi. I have a Whirlpool Washer. When I run the automatic Test and Manual Tests no error codes are showing. However when running the Regular Cycle, the spin cycle would not start up and the machine would go into Rinse again and the lid lock would blink. It would act like it did not know what step to do next. I got a F7 E1 error codes. I replaced the control board and the machine acted the same way. I then replaced the actuator. The washer now runs all the way through the regular cycle but seems to be stuck when it is in the spin cycle. It will spin for 5 minutes straight. I then have to go and cancel it since it will not automatically go to the DONE step. Any thoughts?

Sherri, If you are getting an F7E1 error after replacing the shift actuator then the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty shift actuator because the speed sensor would be part of the actuator.

Christy, You will want to access the tech sheet which is located on the front panel of the unit so you will want to lift the main top to access. Once you have the tech sheet put the unit into a diagnostic and see what error code is coming up. Check the error code and follow what steps to take for the error code according to the tech sheet.
