1 Answer John, If room allows, the easiest way is to remove power to the washer, turn off the water supply, and move the washer out as far as possible, then lean it back against the wall, and have someone watch the machine or block up the front so you can work on it from underneath. disconnect the wire harness from the shifter assembly. Remove the two(2) mounting screws(flat blade screw driver). remove the arm from the shifter lever and drop the assembly from the transmission case. Duane February 13, 2014 for Model Number MVWC350AW1 Hi, I have a Maytag Centennial top loader washer and basically my issue is the same as a posting I read from your list of postings. "When pushing the start button nothing happens. The sensing light comes on and the lid locks." However, this problem started after we ran a load of wash and the washer left the clothes soaked. My question is...is this a seperate issue? Or does the shift actuator control both issues I've listed.... And is this actuator "AP4514409" compatible with my model? MVWC350AW1

1 Answer Jerry, The actuator is the same in a sense but is a little more elaborate than the wigwag switch due to sensors that are in the actuator. If the unit is not draining this is the first avenue you will want to explore. With the unit not draining then it will not go into the spin cycle. Normally there will be a series of flashing lights which would be an error code in which you will want to access the tech sheet and the error codes are located on it. I've read through the other questions but have not found the exact symptoms. It cycles through just fine till the spin cycle where it will do one of three things. It stops and the spin light is left on, or it stops and the done light is on, or it stops and the spin light is on and the lid lock light is flashing. I am not an appliance whiz, but I found the service manual and ran the automatic test. It did fine until the spin cycle where it began to spin and then there were multiple clicking sounds from down in the machine (not the lid lock), and then stopped, the basket slowing of it's own accord. The Wash, Rinse. and Spin lights were lit and the lid lock light was flashing. I saw no diagnostic code in the manual that matches this. From reading the other letters I am thinking it is the Actuator or the Main Control Board. Might someone know which one it is? The sound does not seem to be from the board, it is from down in the body of the machine, not up in the control panel. It beginns to spin and then it makes the noise, it kind of sounds like something is slipping (a clutch?), would that be the actuator? Also, I had forgotten to mention that I am able to get it to spin if I unplugged the machine, plugged it back in and then ran the drain and spin cycle. I might have to do this a few times, but it would finally spin, though the clothes would not be as dry as before, so maybe it was only dong the slow spin. Thanks again...

Nat December 29, 2013 for Model Number WTW4850XQ0 Hello, My washer will not spin at all. Bottom tray was taken out and with washer tilted backwards, washer actually spins in this awkward position. From my observation, there is a latch that does not engage during spin cycle. Does this actuator have latch that moves to engage during spin cycle??

It also houses a transmission speed/position optical sensor. The splotch controls the agitate or spin functions based on the actuator position and the optical sensor inside the actuator controls the orbits per min. or agitator pattern in the wash cycle, and also controls the spin speed in the drain spin cycle. Your first check should be to check the wiring harness and connections at the actuator, make sure everything is fitting tight and proper. Replace the actuator if the wiring and connections are OK. Rich December 22, 2013 for Model Number 110.21202010 I have a 3yr old Kenmore washing machine that stops agitating randomly. Sometimes it works well start to finish.
