Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Latch (Part Number: OEM18028227)

1 Answer

Rockne, unfortunately, the latch assembly WP4451424 has been discontinued by the manufacturer. As such, we would not be able to recommend an alternative, nor would we be able to provide an alternative wiring solution for this part. However, if it is one of the switches on the latch that have failed, both 4452312 and 4456568 are still showing as available.

Kris for Model Number Whirlpool GMC305PDQ1

After a self clean cycle, our oven door lock would not open. We did open it with a wire hanger after it was cool. Then the door wouldn't shut because the latch was stuck in the way so I pushed on it to get it out of the way. Now it is loose and even when the door is shut, the interior lights stay on and it says the door is open (so it won't heat to bake). Does this sound like the door latch just needs to be replaced or did I damage something else by pushing the latch out of the way? Also if it is the door latch, is that difficult to replace in a wall oven? Thanks!

Hello Kris. You will need to replace the door latch WP4451424 on the unit. You will need to test the temp probe WP4451665 and see if it is bad and will need to be replaced. In some rare cases, the control board does need to be replaced with the latch. In your case, the board 4453168 has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part. The latch is not easy to replace. You will remove the vent cover. Then You will need to work "blind" and use a small ratchet and socket to remove the screws holding the latch to the oven top assembly, behind the vent cover. Then remove the two screws holding the latch assembly to the front flange of the oven cavity. Now remove the latch and install the new latch in reverse order.

George, The F5 E7 is showing that the self clean latch will not unlock. You will need to check the following: 1. Check the latch assembly: latch arm pivot joint, arm/solenoid connection, solenoid spring, and spring washer. 2. Check the Latch Solenoid: - Check for firm electrical connections. - Disconnect the two wires from the solenoid and measure the resistance of the solenoid. A small resistance (approx. 175?) is normal. If the solenoid is open (8?) or shorted (0?), it should be replaced. 3. Check the Latch Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door latched = switch closed, continuity should read 0?. - Door unlatched = switch open, continuity should read 8?. 4. Check Door Open/Closed Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door open = switch closed, continuity should read 0?. - Door closed = switch open, continuity should read 8?.

Hello Billy, The first place the check is in the breaker box. Flip the breaker off and back on to ensure neither side of it is tripped. The next place to check is the thermal overload WP9759243. If it tests good, the next thing to look at is the oven sensor WP4451665. This should test at about 1100 ohms of resistance at about 70°F. If that tests good, the last suspect other that possible poor electrical connections, would be the microcomputer 4452240 which shows to be no longer available. If this turns out to be the case, you can contact corecentricsolutions.com to see if they support board part number 4452240.

Hello Gary. 1. Open door all the way. NOTE: Two 5/32" (4 mm) Allen wrenches or two nails of similar diameter may be used if factory furnished door removal pins have been misplaced. Be careful not to damage porcelain finish. 2. Insert small end of a door removal pin into each door hinge. 3. Grasp under handle and gently close door as far as it will shut. Pull door out at bottom to remove. 4. Set door aside on protected surface.

Tyler, The Lower oven cooling fan should start and run, whenever a bake, broil, or clean cycle is programmed and started. You should be able to hear the fan run, and feel the air movement from the vent grille WP8302592 above the oven door. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Debbie. Use a butter knife or an ice pick and reach through the vent and unlock the door on the unit. You will need to replace the latch assembly WP4451424 and the control board to repair the unit. Hope this helps.
