The Temperature Switch is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool front-load washing machines. Located inside the unit, it monitors water temperatures during heating cycles.

Causes of a bad temperature switch can include failure or drift of internal components that monitor heat over extended use. Exposure to fluctuations in water temperatures during wash cycles may also impact switch performance.

Symptoms of a bad temperature switch can be:

  • Inability to heat water to set temperatures
  • Unexpected fluctuations in water temperature during cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore front-load washing machines.

Lindsey for Model Number wtw57esvw1

We have a Whirlpool Washer we purchased in February 2010. I believe June of 2013 the temperature switch went out... we ordered a new one and replaced it. Worked great for about 1-2 months then went out again. We swapped out the part thinking it could be faulty. The new one lasted a week and went out. .. swapped it out again. The most recent switch lasted 3 days. It is doing the same thing.. it will not fill, will not agitate but if you manually turn it to spin it spins fine. Thinking it may be something in the machine I was missing causeing the switch to blow I called a Appliance Repair man to come look at it. He found nothing except for the fact the temperature switch was out. He asked if it had received any power surges, not that I am aware of. I called whirlpool and of course they are of no assistance since the machine is out of its measley 1 year warranty period. I have a family of 7 who generate a huge amount of laundry. This is extremely frustrating and a huge inconvience. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Lindsey. This is caused by raising the lid after starting a cycle. Try replacing the lid switch with the new temp switch and make sure no one raises the lid after a wash cycle has started.

James, access the console components, check the wiring connections at water temperature switch WPW10248240 and the control WPW10104800 on the back of the timer. if there's no corrosion on the terminals, and all the connections are tight, replace the water temperature switch.

Stu, There is a push tab on the clip for the switch push in and pull out. On the long connection there is a tab in the front you would pull out on and the other connector just pulls straight out.

Billy Extra Rinse for Model Number mvwc6esww1

I have a maytag centennial mvwc6esww1 top loading washer. Last weekend it seems like the cycles don't line up with the knob. When I start the washer, instead of water first starting to fill and agitating shortly thereafter, they both occur upon start. Then after the spin cycle, the washer adds some water thus the laundry is soaking wet when the cycle is done. Seems like the water added in the end should have been at the beginning of the cycle...make sense?

Billy, You will want to test your pressure switch to make sure that it is good. If the pressure switch checks ok then you will need to replace the timer.

Linda for Model Number WTW57ESVW1

I have a whirlpool load sensing washing machine that is only 2 years old and is now overfilling. It is like it no longer senses the weight of the load and just fills the basket to the point of overflow. Water all over the Kitchen. on the Quick wash cycle it sometimes does not overfill. I believe the part I need to replace is the Water level & temp controller part #W10248240. I wish to know if that is the correct part for the problem or if not, what I need to do to repair my washer.

Linda, You will want to check the pressure hose to make sure that it is not clogged, kinked, damage or come loose. Also check the air dome to make sure that it is not clogged. If this checks ok then you would want to replace the pressure switch WPW10248240.
