The Door Latch Bracket is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool built-in microwaves. It is a rigid metal component that securely holds the door latch mechanism in proper position when closed. This is the microwave door latch bracket behind the door release button.

Causes of a bad door latch bracket typically involve fatigue from years of repeated use. Impacts, warping from excessive heat exposure, or stresses from heavy pan loads may weaken or deform connecting surfaces over time as well.

Symptoms of a compromised bracket include:

  • Misalignment causing difficulty latching or fully closing the door
  • Cracking or looseness allowing excessive play of latch components
  • Recurring problems with the door sealing tightly or staying shut securely
  • Gaps that allow microwaves to escape from the cooking cavity

This OEM Whirlpool replacement part is also compatible with KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, and some Kenmore built-in microwave models.

Hello Del. Carefully move them with your fingers. Try not to break them. If they are warm, they flex better.

Hello Ken. Those are safety torx bits. You should be able to go to your local hardware store and pick up the one you need to repair the unit. Just tell them it is a safety torx bit. Thanks.

I replaced the release lever ER205451 on my Whirlpool microwave MT 4155SPQ0 and when I push the open button the door latches release enough that I can pull open the door but the door does not spring open on its own. With the cover off if I push the exterior button I see the new release lever lift enough that the door latches raise partially. Then if I manually assist the lever bar the last 1/4" the latches fully release and the door springs open. Replacing the release lever did not appear to be rocket science however I suspect I must have overlooked something. Could you perhaps point me in the right direction? Thanks

Justhavinfun, The release lever is pretty straight forward for replacement. It sounds like you have gotten it in place properly and you will want to check the button to see if the button is damaged. This would be the most likely cause of the lever not lifting enough.

Al for Model Number GT4175SPB-2

One of the hinges on my door latch bracket is broken off. After buying a replacement part, do I just insert one hinge in one of the hinge keepers then press snap the other hinge in or do I have to take the control panel off? I am afraid of breaking a hinge on the new part. I couldn't get the control panel off. Also, since the bracket was just laying in the bottom of the unit I am not certain how the bracket fits in to unlock the latch on the door and activate the switch on the bottom.

Al, You will want to unplug the unit and remove the outer casing of the unit. Once removed you will remove the screws on the back side of the control panel that will allow it to be removed. Once removed you can install the door latch bracket.

Hello Phil, If you have the air grille off you should remove the screw that was under it, centered at the top of the control panel. Now the control panel should slide straight up and pull off. Be careful of the wiring. The door latch bracket WP8205451 is located behind the control panel near the base of the unit.
