Linda for Model Number AGR5715QDW

Set the oven for 400 degrees. It got much hotter and things burned. I touched cancel and the "bake" light went out. A minute later the "bake" light started flashing off and on. I hit cancel again. The light went out then a minute later it started flashing off and on again. We couldn't get the oven to turn off so we unplugged it and turned off the gas. The next day we plugged it back in but did not turn on the gas. We didn't turn on any controls and only the clock was lit but the oven got warm (about 170) and we can see a bright light under the oven bottom. This is a gas range. Is there an electric warmer for the bake and hold feature? Do we need to replace the control board?

Linda, The orange glow that you saw would most likely be the igniter and if it is coming on without the unit being set then this would be a bad control board.

Bake switch says 100 degrees, but oven doesn't light to heat the oven. The broil switch seems to work fine, so the oven gas and ignition seem fine. All burners are fine. I've unplugged and plugged the unit back in, hoping for a reset. No such luck. Does this mean I need to replace the whole control panel ($250)? Thanks for your help. I've tested the bake igniter by plugging it into the broil igniter plug and it seems to heat up red however when I turn on the oven to bake it does not heat up at all. The igniter leads seem to have melted a bit and maybe shorted out. Would this ruin the control board?

1 Answer

Mike, What you will want to do is disconnect the igniter from the harness and turn the oven on to bake. Test the harness leads to see if there is 120 vac getting to the igniter. If not then the issue would be the clock assembly.

I have a gas range. The breaker tripped which powers the electric components of the range. A while later we smelled something hot and saw smoke. The oven had heated to a very high temperature. It was not in the clean cycle as the door did not lock. The control panel works on some functions but not others. Anytime I plug the unit in it begins on its own to heat continuously without stopping. Is this a faulty control panel causing this or something else?

1 Answer

Hello Bob. Yes, based on the information you provided, the control board WP74009217 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Dave, It's not likely that you have two faulty igniters 74007498, due to a voltage spike but, it is a possibility. It's more likely that the bake and broil relays on the ERC/Clock have failed due to the voltage issue. You'll want to remove the oven bottom panel, program a bake mode, and check to see if the igniter glows "white" hot, then program a broil cycle and observe the broil igniter for a "white" hot glow as well. You'll need a meter or test light, to verify that there is voltage across the wires in the igniter wire connection from the chassis portion of the harness, No voltage would indicate a wiring issue or faulty clock relays. If you have the voltage, then you'd have two faulty igniters.

Hello Chris, This sounds more like a gas valve issue. The control board can be responsible, but the gas valve is the more probable culprit. For series 11 and below, use clock # (AP4097550). For series 12 and above use clock # (AP4097550).

Hi Michael. You may have not noticed b/4 but during preheat the electronic controls will automatically start the unit at 100°. I would use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist. you in your diagnosis. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve 3203459. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter 74007498 and the igniter will need to be replaced. Make sure the wire connections are all fine and tight before replacing the safety valve part # 12002604. Thank You.
