Chris for Model Number KSRA25ILSS02

I was told by a repair man I need a new board for the fridge. Is this a wise investment considering the fridge is !2 years old? Freezer and icemaker work great. Does not blow air into fridge from freezer. I did change filter, vacuumed underneath and unplugged for 24 hours and still not working. If I need a new main control board, how easy is it to install myself? Is there a YouTube video that you know of that can show step by step? How quickly can I get part? Thanks for your help!

Chris, The electronic control board for your unit is part number 8201658. While there is no video for this part, it is relatively easy to replace. You will want to unplug the unit and on the left wall at the top there will be a Phillips head screw, remove the screw and cover. There will then be 4 screws under the control which are 1/4" hex head, there will be 1 on each side and then 2 on the back. You will remove these screws and pull the control housing forward. Disconnect the wiring to the control board and pull out the housing from the unit. Once the housing is removed you will need to peel off the control display cover, the part comes with a new one, and remove the screw on either side behind it. Once removed you should be able to take out the control board and install the new one.

Larry, This issue would be caused by a clogged drain and you will need to clear all the ice out and flush the drain with hot water.

Yankeefan for Model Number KitchenAid Refrigerator KSRS25ILBL

Refrigerator side warm, approx. 52 degrees, freezer side was fine, all items were frozen solid. I noticed there was frost on the back bottom of the freezer wall, so a repairman was called. He pulled off the back panel inside the freezer (covering the coil), and used a hairdryer to remove the ice which had formed on the coil. He replaced the defrost thermostat (he called it a defrost relay), and said that our refrigerator would work for approx. 4 to 5 days, until he could get back with a new control panel (he called it a computer). Why would the defrost "relay" only work for 4 to 5 days until the "computer" arrives? Is it possible that it will take 4 to 5 days for ice to form over the coil again? Also, there was no air coming out of the diffuser (refrig side) until the coil was de-iced. Now there is air coming out (top left side of refrigerator) of the diffuser. Any suggestions or guidance on whether or not the control panel needs replacing will be appreciated. A side note, the current control panel was installed in 2009, after an electrical short blew out the original one. Thanks.

Yankeefan, It does sound like your refrigerator has a defrost issue, and presume the servicer found the defrost thermostat "open" when iced over. Yes, if there is an issue with the main control board 8201658 the refrigerator will cool until the evaporator coils clog with ice again, which can take 3 to 5 days, depending on usage. If you wish, remove the lower kick plate grille, you should find the tech data information sheet attached to the lower frame work of the refrigerator cabinet. You can review the instructions, and program into the "service Diagnostics Mode" and test all the components of the cooling system including the defrost cycle.
