Hello Jim. There is a screw under the bottom on the right back corner, that will need to be removed. Once removed there are locking tabs on each side that will need to be released. Once released the icemaker 2198597 will slide forward. and you will need to unplug the icemaker. Thank you.

David M for Model Number KSCS35I - Kithchenaid Spuperba 2004

My ice maker is not working and the optical equipment checks out. I took the ice maker out and removed the white covering. A white dial with gears fell off. The fractures at the dial connection suggest there was torque failure. Also, one of the metal leads at the bottom of the white dial had a black burn spot. New icemaker? I think so - I just want to make sure that doesn't happen again. Thoughts on what caused that?

Hello David. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the icemaker 2198597 will need to be replaced. Check and make sure the cubes are not to big, when the new one is installed. If not, the heater could have failed, causing the gear to break. Hope this helps.

Curt for Model Number Fridge: GD5SH; Ice Maker: AP3182733

We went away for a weekend and shut the house water off. We forgot to turn off the ice maker. When we returned, the ice mold was empty and it was not making and new ice. The fill tube appears to come from the ceiling of the freeze and looks to be frozen solid. Any thoughts as to what caused this? Did turning the water supply off cause this to freeze? What is the recommended way to thaw it? Hair dryer or just remove the whole ice maker? Thanks!

1 Answer

Hello Curt. Yes, if the water was turned off, the fill tube will freeze over. You will need to thaw out the fill tube in the unit. If the hair dryer does not get it, you may need to unplug the unit for 24 hours until the ice is thawed out. Hope this helps.

Hi Donald. The ice maker part # 2198597, cycles and commands 6 sec. of water from the water valve. If either of these parts are defective, you will get this issue. If the water valve part # W10408179 does not shut off (phyysically sticks open) then it will over flow the ice maker into the ice bin. The head if the ice mqaker has a white cover as you can remove it and tape the door switch closed. See if when the ice maker rotates, that after it fills with water that the ice maker quits rotation; (or is shorted). Thank you.

Hello Joseph. No, the icemaker works on how fast the ice freezes and dumps the ice according to the thermo-disc opening and closing. You can try running the freezer a little colder, but usually this does not help a lot. If the icemaker is real slow about making ice, you may need to replace the icemaker 2198597. Hope this helps.

Hello Joseph. No, you may have a problem with the heater in the mold or the thermal disc. It is best to replace the icemaker assembly 2198597 in the unit. This will save you money, instead of ordering the individual parts. Thank You.
