Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Icemaker Assembly (Part Number: OEM9548208)

Wayne for Model Number Gs6shaxmt00

My ice maker stopped working. When I removed the ice maker, I noticed the ice cubes were frozen to the ice mold and the ejection fingers were laying on top of the ice cubes. I also found an ice sheet under the ice mold near the control module. After I defrosted the ice maker and removed the ice I replaced it in the freezer. The ice maker ejectors rotate but no water fills the mold. The Infra red device appears to checkout. Blinks twice then one second pause when the door is open. When I close the emitter module door the light is steady. I also checked for ice in the water fill nozzle. Did not appear to be frozen. Any suggestions recommendations?

Hello Wayne, This sounds like you have either lost water pressure to the unit or the water inlet valve has failed. There is also the possibility that the contacts inside the icemaker have burned, causing them not to make contact when they are closed. This is easy to test for with a test meter. Simply remove the wires from the icemaker water inlet valve and put the voltage meter accross these two wires. Cycle the icemaker and watch the meter. If the unit goes all the way through the cycle and stops, but you never see the 120Vac pop up for the required 7 seconds, the icemaker has bad contacts inside it and should be replaced. If you see the voltage pop up for the 7 seconds, the water inlet valve is bad. The valve can still open with no water pressure to it so it is still important to make sure as I have even found the water shut-off to the unit turned off under the sink and behind the unit. Let us know if we can assist further.

Lenny for Model Number KSRG25FKSS16

I asked a question regarding an icemaker not making ice above. I had not gotten around to using the diagnostic material you had sent me. On Friday water started flowing non stop into the icemaker and out the ice dispenser on the front of the refrigerator. We have shut off the water coming into the unit. I am going to assume now that we do not have a line blockage - water seems to flow very well. Any ideas on what is going on with this icemaker or suggestion on how to figure it out? Thanks

Hello Lenny. You will need to remove the icemaker and see if it is stuck in the fill mode. If so, you will need to replace the icemaker assembly 2198597. If it is not, then the water valve W10408179 will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

Hi Karen. Is the ice bin sitting fully on the inner door area? If it is mis - cocked it will have this issue. You said the bin is not overflowing. It is good to know that you cycle the ice maker on/off to use the full bin and then turn it back on when you are half way empty. Remove the bin and save the wanted ice in a separate bowl. Tape the fzr. door shut. Insert a glass in the paddle area. Open the door and see if your auger motor is working up to speed when activated for ice. Does it reverse directions between crush and cube ? Is the chute flapper fully opening or hanging up half way ? The auger motor is part # WP2252129. The ice chute kit is part # W10823377. The ice chute should not show any flashlight as it is pointed up into the front of the chute up into the ice maker area. Observe with the door open and you are looking down back at the chute area. The flapper not closing fully will allow outside moist air back up into the chute opening ,up into the cube cutter blades and jamming with frost, ice build up. This stops all normal operations as if the door was not fully shut. Clear all frost/ice build up. Clean the chute area and make sure the flapper shuts fully. Thank You.

Hello Matt. Test for power to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If there is no power at the water valve, replace the icemaker 2198597. If there is power there, and the fill tube is not frozen, and the water does not come in, replace the water valve in the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Mike, Yes, there is a way to test the I/R sensor system. First make sure the I/R system switch is in the "on" position and close the door, and wait for 1 minute. Open the freezer door, and observe the LED lamp on the right wall assembly, LED flashes twice / followed by a 1 second delay, indicates the I/R beam is blocked or there is a fault in the optics system. If there is no light at all, The ice maker could be in a harvest mode, or there is a fault in the sensor system. Press in on the emitter flapper on the left wall, if the LED pulses twice followed by a 1 second delay, the optics are still faulty. The LED is on solid optics system checks OK. This test is approximately 90% accurate, so if problem persists replace the sensor board kit W11629974. Good Luck and Thanks
