Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Compressor Starting Device Kit (Part Number: OEM11655252)

1 Answer

LAC, you may want to check the overload protector. If the overload protector failed, it can cause the compressor to not run. The way you would want to test it is by testing from the wire connector to the compressor pin connector for continuity. If the overload does not have continuity, then it has failed. Another issue may be that voltage is not being supplied to the compressor.

P Norma, if there are no fans running, check the thermostat in the control panel, take a jumper wire and jump across the two terminals to see if it will come on. If it does, replace the thermostat, WP2198202. The black cover on the compressor should pop off with a flat head screw driver, there should be a slot that allows you to pry it off.

The discrete parts in replacement part #AP3885081 works after install and the refrigerator is running cold again, however I can't get the supplied cover to fit on compressor EGY80 without pinching the white and blue wires connected to the capacitor as shown in the instruction video. There are no cutouts for these wires like there are for the red and green wires. I saw sparks coming from the starting device when I initially turned on the refrigerator after installing the discrete parts without the cover and concerned of a fire hazard. Do I need the cover and is it safe to leave the cover off for my appliance model?

1 Answer

Ruby, It is safe to leave the cover off but also the wires would go through the same slot as the red and green wires go through on the cover.

Hello Connie, EGY80 uses part 2188829 for style 1 or 2187145 for style 2. The instructions included with the kit covers this procedure completely.

Hello Randy, You have all of the connections correct. The run capacitor wires will connect to the relay on terminals 1 and 3. If the relay has no terminal 1, that wire will share terminal 2 with the blue wire. This can be accomplished with a piggyback terminal TJMA02896-1, (be sure to insulate with electrical tape so the terminal cannot short to anything).
