This ice container assembly stores ice in the freezer and feeds it to the dispenser on demand. Replacing a damaged or worn bin restores smooth, consistent ice dispensing and helps prevent jams and poor delivery. What it does:

  • Holds and organizes ice in the freezer for dispensing
  • Uses the internal auger to move ice toward the chute when dispensing is activated
  • Interfaces with the crusher/cube selection in applicable designs
  • Common symptoms of failure: no or intermittent ice dispensing, grinding during dispense, jammed ice, or visible cracks/broken tabs on the bin
What's included:
  • Includes: 1 ice container assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the refrigerator before servicing
  • Remove the old bin and discard any ice; allow any frost buildup to thaw to avoid forcing parts
  • Align the auger drive with the coupling and seat the bin fully before closing the door
  • After installation, make fresh ice and discard the first batch

Rob, On the lever of the ice bin there is a straight peg that goes next to where the push button is, this is the location of where the spring would attach. Unfortunately there is no diagram showing how this spring would go on.

Hello Joseph, Make sure there is no ice or frost in the opening in the bottom of it where the motor shaft meshes. If the door liner is malformed, the only factory approved fix is to replace the door liner, which has been dis-continued L2327940B.

Frank, You will want to check to make sure that the shaft of the that comes from the motor to the ice bin is not stripped at the top. Also make sure that it is down far enough so that it will seat properly. To get it to go lower you can tap the top of it with the blunt end of a screwdriver. You will want to make sure that it is not down too far and check to make sure that the top is not rounded off. If it is then you will need to replace the shaft WP2188917.

Hello C.J., The lever on the bottom side of the crusher flips the ice diverter out of the way so the cubes can go around the blades instead of getting crushed. There is a solenoid in the back that the end of this arm sticks into. If it is not positioned properly or the solenoid is in the up position when the bin is installed into the unit, it will not actuate the arm and crushed ice will dispense. If the solenoid is not actuating and is in the down position, it could be frozen. Blowing a hair dryer toward it for about 15 minutes will thaw it out to see if the solenoid is still operational. If it is and this restores operation, look for an air leak around the ice door or door seal since moisture from room temperature air will condense on the metal parts of the solenoid. If it doesn't correct the issue, look for voltage at the solenoid with the door switch taped down and cubes chosen and the dispense button pressed. If voltage is present, replace the solenoid. If no voltage, check in the dispense area for a defective micro switch or micro switch holder.

Hello Bob, The ice bin should be easily removed. If you switch ice back and forth pressing lever inbetween this will loosen up until it lifts off. On the last turn allow to barely engage before releasing.
