Bob for Model Number 63932 Kenmore

I"ve read pages of your helpful answers to customer Qs, but none apply. My electric dryer just made a little clunk noise then refuses to start. I get a PTS click but nothing more. After the PTS click I "turn it off" with the control or door switch and when the PTS is pushed I get another click. I've switched the start and heat relays with no change or success. I've examined the controls area and everything is intact with no burned or smelly components. Is this problem familiar to you??

Bob, unfortunately, the model provided appears to be a partial number. If the model number from the model/serial tag could be verified and provided in a new question, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented.

Judy, the igniter 279311 would need to be checked to identify if it glows every time that the dryer is started or not. If the igniter glows every time but the flames do not ignite, the next step would be to unplug the power cord from the outlet, turn the gas supply off, and access the dryer gas coils 279834. The coils would need to be tested for resistance. The two-prong coil will read 1,000-1,300O, and the three-prong coil will read 1,300-1,400O across prongs 1&2, and 500-600O across prongs 1&3. If the coils test properly, the igniter has failed and would need to be replaced. If the igniter does not glow every time, and the outlet thermistor WP8577274 measures 10KO at room temperature, then it would be likely that the dryer control WPW10116565 has failed and would need to be replaced. Unfortunately, the dryer control has been discontinued and is no longer available.

Roger, with the dryer unplugged, the temperature selector would need to be tested for continuity. With it set to air fluff, there should not be any continuity between terminal 5 to terminal 3, terminal 4 to terminal 2, or terminal 4 to terminal 1. If there is continuity, the temperature selector WP3399643 would need to be replaced. If there is not continuity between the mentioned terminals, the heater relay WP3405281 would need to be tested for continuity between the terminals with the solid red wires. If there is continuity the relay would need to be replaced. If there is not continuity, the wires and heater WP3387747 will need to be tested for any grounded connections and replaced or repaired as necessary. If there is not a grounded wire or element, then the dryer control WPW10116565 has failed. Unfortunately, the dryer control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Gary Koupf for Model Number 110.62952100

The dryer will not run unless I hold the START button down. It is also not heating. I replaced the motor relay, thermal fuse and the start button. I also moved the new relay from the motor circuit to the heat circuit but still no heat. Motor runs fine as long as I hold the button down but stops as soon as I let go. And no heat. do I need a new control board? If so are all the control board versions listed (there are about 10 part numbers listed under cross reference) interchangeable? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me.

Gary, I would first check the run windings of the main drive motor. Take your voltmeter and set it for resistance, Measure from 4M to 5M, you should read 2.4-3.6 ohms. From 4M to6M you should read 2.4 to 3.8 ohms. If you are not reading correct resistance, replace the motor. Check the centrifugal switch, 2M to 1M. With the motor not running, it should be open, if you can get a reading with it running, check for voltage, it should not read voltage if the switch is closed and the motor is running. If you read 120 volts with it running, the switch is open and it should be closed, replace the motor.

John, First, inspect the control board WPW10116565 / 3978922 for damage, discoloration, and loose connections. Then use a multi meter and check for voltage into the control board from the timer and out of the board to the various components of the inoperative circuit. If you repost your question with an e mail address, we can send you the appropriate information to help you out. Thanks,

Knmre110, Hold your door switch down with the door open and press start and turn the drum at the same time. Its easier to tape the switch closed if no one can lend a hand. While pressing start turn the drum by hand. If it runs then your motor is bad. Power is supplied to it thru the timer, not a control board.

Larry, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board [PA6015194] which unfortunately has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available.

Bmoorepa, You will want to check to see if there is 120 vac going to the igniter. If there is not then the control board would be the most likely culprit. If the igniter glows then the gas coils would be the issue.
