The Damper Control is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It regulates the airflow between the freezer and refrigerator compartments, maintaining the appropriate temperatures in each section. This component ensures that cold air is distributed properly, contributing to the overall efficiency and performance of the refrigerator.

Common causes of a bad damper control can include wear and tear over time, electrical failures, or mechanical obstructions. A malfunctioning damper control can lead to temperature imbalances, affecting the preservation of food.

Symptoms of a bad damper control include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures between the freezer and refrigerator
  • Freezer overly cold while the refrigerator is too warm, or vice versa
  • Frost buildup in the refrigerator compartment
  • Unusual noises coming from the damper area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Leslie, With the unit getting warmer and the fans not running, but able to reset by unplugging the unit, the issue would most likely be caused by the jazz board WPW10503278.

My Whirlpool Refrigerator is warm while my freezer is cold. I noticed ice on the evaporator coils and the vents at the back of the freezer being blocked by ice. I unplugged frig and cleaned off coils and it worked fine. After about 10 days, the problem reappeared. Unsure what the most likely cause is for my model. Had a repairman here after I thawed the frig and he said there was nothing wrong. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks. Eric

Hello Eric. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Water pump not working but ice maker works. Replaced filter, cleaned behind refrigerator, held water pump button for 1+ minutes but still no water. Display light for water/filter does not work but all other display lights work. Turned temperature up to 45 degrees for 1/2 hour and water worked short time but stopped after not using it for a few hours. Also, occassionally food on top shelf of fridge and vegetable bin or lower tray freezes but not all the time.

Jenn Air refrigerator owner. You will want to check the damper to make sure that it is opening and closing. From the description it sounds as though the water tank may be freezing. Makes sure also that there is nothing sitting directly in front of the damper that would cause the cold air to be forced downward to the water tank. Also check the thermistor to ensure that it is within range per specs on the tech sheet which would be located on the base of the unit under the kickplate in a plastic envelope.

J, If the damper is not opening then yes it would be the cause for the unit to have a warm refrigerator compartment.

The temperature control for both the refrigerator and freezer is stuck at the highest setting or number 7. Most of the time you can press the up and down buttons and the display is unresponsive and will not change from 7. Every once in a while the display is responsive and you can set the refrigerator and freezer for something other than 7; however, both displays always go back to 7 after some time. I believe from the actual temperature of the freezer and refrigerator that they are working. The setting of 7 in the refrigerator seems reasonable because it is a little too cold for my liking. My guess is that the control board is bad. Thoughts?

My refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. Before this happened it was making an intermittent short buzz sound (down by where the compressor is) every few minutes. We came home and everything was defrosted. The refrigerator temp was room temperature and the temperature control pad is lit but not responsive. I unplugged the refrigerator and called a repair man. He came over and told me my temperature control module was bad, he also said that the amp draw on the compressor was too low (it was reading 1.4), he also said that it was low on refrigerant but that it was a sealed system and that he had a guy that could splice a valve into it and recharge it with coolant. He said to fix the refrigerator would cost more than it's worth, but that he had a guy that could fix it but it would be $400+ with no guarantee. The refrigerator worked fine up until the day it stopped working and now since he plugged it in and left ... it seems to be cooling off but the temp controls are unresponsive. What do you think?

Refrigerator portion is too cold. It is freezing our eggs and causing them to break. Freezer is set to 0; frig is set to 39 (F). Have previously replaced the dampener. It was working correctly, but the motor was making a grinding noise. Dampener appears to still be working correctly. Refrigerator does not appear to be running continuously. Also, did notice a bit of ice on the freezer coils, right at the junction of the condenser and the copper tubing joint (if this helps). Can the transducer be bad if the digital temp reads correct at 39? I also placed a mechanical thermometer in the frig to verify and the thermometers both read 39, so I believe they are correct. Thoughts? THANK YOU!

Hello John. If the damper assembly is good in the unit, then it sounds like the thermistor 12002355 is bad and will need to be replaced. This reads the temperature inside the refrigerator.
