Bob July 17, 2016 for Model Number Kenmore 596.75509400 Hi, Freezer is working but the fridge is not cool. I have confirmed that the fan is working, but the damper is never opening. How do I know if the damper assembly is bad or if it is not being told to open? Thanks, Bob
1 Answer Hello Bob. You can test for power to the damper. If it is there and it does not open, it is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Marty January 10, 2016 for Model Number FFHS2611LWB Freezer works fine, but fridge freezing some liquids, and frozen water filter...I replaced the thermistor, but did not fix. Seems like the damper never closes in fridge..even on lowest temp setting...new damper?
1 Answer Hello Marty. It sounds like the damper has failed and will need to be replaced if it never closes. Read More...
Jerry September 12, 2015 for Model Number MDF2561HES Freezer working fine, fridge seems to be too cold (some items freezing) temp says 38 degrees, checked damper from freezer...seems to be stuck open, do you think that's the problem? if so what is remedy?
1 Answer Hello Jerry. You need to check and see if the thermistor 12002355 is good if the unit is showing 38° but is colder. If the thermistor is good, then see if there is power to the damper motor. If so, replace the damper. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Barry June 23, 2015 for Model Number KBFA25ERSS01 Since day 1 there's been this "grinding" noise periodically (not constant, for a short period, like it's going through some cycle). Unit has long had problems with refrigerator easily getting too hot and then fighting for hours to get back. Last few years it's even worse especially on humid days. With the French doors I know opening them both up for even a little bit very quickly lets lots of warm air in, but the recovery is just so poor. The damper cover will sometimes get a bit frosted over as it's fighting to cool down (esp. towards the right side of it). I can feel air coming out the vent at the very bottom (so I think the motor fan must be working). I can feel air coming out the damper cover (so I think the evaporator fan is OK)... seems to me both should blow harder but maybe they're just working normally (do they ever fail where they work but don't turn as fast as they should?). No excessive noise from the fans either. So I'm thinking maybe it's been the damper control all along, sometimes (maybe always) just not opening all the way when it should. Freezer has never had a problem and if I switch to "max cool" it easily goes below 0 degrees, but the refrigerator still fights for a long time to get cool. I try to make sure nothings blocking the damper cover and nothing is over the vents on the back floor or blocking air flow along the back wall. So does the damper sound like a good bet? Any more definitive testing I can easily do? Thanks!
1 Answer Hello Barry. It has been known for fans to be going bad and running slow. Also, some dampers have failed and will not fully open. So, with this, it can be either part causing the issue. As for air flow, it shouldn't be real strong. You honestly can barely feel it in the top, but you know it is there. I would start with checking the damper to see if it is fully opening. Read More...
Jerry June 12, 2015 for Model Number ASD2626HEW The refrigerator is freezing the freezer is fine, is this a damper problem or the thermostat?
1 Answer Hello Jerry. You will need to look and see if the damper is broken or has power and does not close. If so, replace the damper. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Jerry June 12, 2015 for Model Number ASD2626HEW The freezer is fine but the refrigerators is same temp as freezer. Everything is frozen.
Mitch May 29, 2015 for Model Number Amana AFD2535DEW Morning! Freezer working fine - fridge not. Unplugged, emptied out, removed ice maker and inside back panel. Unit was off about an hour prior to removing panel so I don't know if coils were frosted up or not, but were clean with the exception of some condensation when I got to it. I plugged it back in and the damper seems to open and close fine. The fan isn't running. Does the temp in the freezer have to drop before it starts working ( thermostatically controlled ) or should it come on automatically? It's been running about 20 minutes at this point. Could this be a relay / control problem or just the fan? Sorry, I don't have an amp meter. Thank you for your time!! Mitch
1 Answer Hello Mitch. The fan should start when the unit starts. You will need to order and replace the fan motor 12002744. Read More...
Richard May 27, 2015 Evaporator fan motor should be pulling air out of freezer or blowing air into freezer? I'm not sure if I reversed wires when I installed.
Ty October 01, 2014 for Model Number GSS26C4XXA00 Refrigerator is not cooling...... Freezer is cold and operational as usual and compressor operating as supposed too, but the Temperature Damper between the Freezer and Refrig is not opening to allow cool air to enter that side. Temp is at 58 degrees with no change, Have unplugged and allowed the unit to sit for 6 hours to thaw, if necessary, and to allow the unit to reset. 48 hours later still not cooling on that side, what do I need to replace??
1 Answer Hello Ty. Check for defrost issue first. if all is clear, then use this link to test the fan motor. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/4220-ge-refrigerators-gs-ps-models-evaporator-fan-motor-test-replacement.html Read More...
Barry August 27, 2014 for Model Number MF F2557HEB The part number 13 shown in your picture is not the same as the damper unit in my MayTag refrigerator. Mine has the motor on the side not on the top, and the damper flap is horizontal (wider than tall). Can you explain?
1 Answer Barry, there are two different series listed for the given model. The other series uses damper control part number WPW10196393. Thanks. Read More...
